SSD compatibility for GA-X58A-UD3R
« on: December 01, 2015, 03:58:05 am »
When we built my computer 5 years ago we installed a 128GB SSD in the PCI-EX8_2 slot. Outside of the limited space, it has worked well for me.  This is my C: drive and I work hard to keep non-critical programs and files off of it, but I seem to be in a constant clean the drive mode. I've got two questions:

Question 1:
I'm now considering putting a larger SSD in it and don't know/understand much about the generations of PCI express cards.  Am I able to replace my existing SSD with this Samsung SSD? If I can use it, do I need this adapter?

Or do I need to look at a card like this that resembles the card I currently have? Such as this Intel card?

Question 2:
I have 2 video cards in the PCI-EX16 slots.  Am I seriously degrading response time by having the SSD in the EX8 slot?

I appreciate the help!

You might want to look at this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104545&cm_re=SHPm2280P2H-_-20-104-545-_-Product

Plus here is a review on it. http://www.overclockers.com/kingston-hyperx-predator-m-2-pcie-g2-x4-480gb-ssd-review/

Plus in the 4 review at Newegg there was one that was using it in a X58 board.

The OCZ revo card will do it for you I have it running on G1sniper M3 board.
240+ GB and fast. (Not sure of actual size it was more than 5 years ago I built it.
it requires a free x4 slot.
If you have two graphics cards then they are running at x8 anyway.
See my build spec below.
