Z97M-D3H slow boot if PCIE 3.0 is enabled

Z97M-D3H slow boot if PCIE 3.0 is enabled
« on: December 28, 2015, 02:21:40 am »
So, heres the thing... has been going on for quite some time now.

If i select "AUTO" or "PCIE 3.0" on BIOS, my computer boots REALLY slow, graphics performance goes to hell, like... really bad. In benchmarks i get a steady 60FPS, if i enable PCIE 3.0, i get like 10FPS and a glitchy sownd.

But if i select PCIE 2.0 on BIOS, everything works perfectly, no cold start boot... nothing.

I'm using the latest BIOS, F8. But this has been happening since i purchased the card back on F5, and no bios update so far fixed this.... Any ideas?

Full setup:

Core i5 4670k @stock speed
XFX R9 280X black OC edition 3GB
16GB (4x4) Kingston HyperX Fury 1600mhz

And so I am clear...  you are referring to "Gen" modes for PCIe Slot Config?

Are you OC'ing CPU or Mem?

The VGA is installed on my PCIe 3.0 x16 slot on mother board. Doesn't matter if the whole PC is on stock or with CPU overclocked, this issue persists.

If i leave the GEN option on AUTO our PCIe 3.0 on the BIOS, my PC always turns on slow with screeching stactic sounds comming from the audio and overall performance ridiculously slow...

First i thought it was the VGA fault, so i swapped with a GTX 970, which i am using to this day. I made a video with the issue back in 2014, when i swapped to a Z97 and i5 7670k, when the issue began.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXka4wxQuUs

The first test in the begining of the video is the normal value for that particular GPU, if you skip to 3:15 on the video, i run the test with this problem that i described. GEN 3 is enabled on BIOS and the computer loses performance as you can see on the video,  but if i reboot it 2-3 times it comes back to normal... full performance on Heaven, no static sound...

The thing is... if i change GEN on BIOS to 2.0, this NEVER heppens, the computer runs perfectly. I understand Pcie 2.0 x16 has virtually no performance loss over PCie 3.0 x16... i don't mind running it @2.0... but not beeing able to solve this is killing me.

Nop, at the time i created this bost i had a XFX R9 280X Black OC Edition stocked at 1080mhz core, now i have a EVGA GTX 970 SC+ 1.314/7010 stock.

Using Windows 10 x64 pro, but back when that issue happened, i tried every OS i own, from vista to 8.1 and the problem persisted.
