SM951 support for gaming 7 z170x (can't raid o)
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:23:31 am »
Hi to all forumers. So basically I have 2x sm 951  Ssd want to do raid 0. The problem is the Ssd is not detected in Intel raid utility. I have tried updating the bios to the latest version from the official gigabyte site but still the same. I have add other HDD and Ssd in the sata port just to check whether the Intel raid utility is working. Looks like Intel raid utility manage to detect other HHD and Ssd from the sata port. I know is just the bios not detecting the sm951 which can be solved if gigabyte add support for the sm951. Is there any solution I know sm951 is around for some time know.

He is the pic of my rig when i finally get the loop running but im stuck here. Without the raid o of the nvme ssd it feels like my investment was a waste. I try to do some googling but come across something to do with modding the bios http://www.win-raid.com/t871f16-Guide-How-to-get-full-NVMe-support-for-Intel-Chipset-systems-from-Series-up.html. I try it didnt work, not even sure i even did it right but after flashing the modified bios its still the same. If any whone tried this before and it worked pls guide me.

Well the thing is my problem is not installing windows. My bios still detect the sm951 as achi and i can install the windows either one of the ssd since windows installer detects both of the sm951 ssd. The problem is actually raiding them. I cant raid o them because it cant be detected in the intel raid utility. But the ssd are still visible in the bios. So let me be clear my problem is not installing os on one of the ssd but i can hardware raid them cause its not detected by the raid utility. I hope the pic can provide a better understanding the issue im facing.

You doing them in the bios or trying to use the legacy Intel raid utility. Go to the book page 67. You have to use the utility in the bios.

Wow tk mate it worked but of course it was not ez. Whole day last night i kept repeating the steps but always the eufi raid does not show up in the bios and few times when i restart there is no signal to the monitor which was so weird. This morning doubt its something to do with the graphic card so i switch it to igfx and restart. Then everything was normal as usual but when i went into the bios i saw the irst in the bios and manage to get raid the ssd. Tk again bro hope this also helps other who want to raid o their nvme ssd. I learn something today and never taught user manual have so many useful info. Want to also say that booting display from pcie rather then igfx cause the csm to auto enabled eventhough i disabled it in bios before save and exit.

Oh man s*** i ran into another problem. Hey bro why is the drive not listed in the windows installer. I have used rufus to create a eufi gpt partition installer. Used ori windows 10 iso and product key so no problem with windows installer but the ssd is not listed.

That link I put up Read what Reservoirdog did. He had to install the Intel RST drivers in Windows Setup.

Man ur the bomb tk again it worked looks like installing rst driver within windows installer did the trick i can see the ssd now. I only took 2 day to build my system but 3 days just set these things to get the nvme ssd in raid o and install windows wt a day  :D. But looks like the speed is not wt i expected. Bad read speeds should be another problem  :(.

Be very careful before assuming there is something wrong with the read/write speeds that you are seeing with CrystalDiskMark or, in fact, with any of the benching software for this process.

You might like to take a quick look at this post: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=16833.msg98862#msg98862 and this one: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=14710.0 to see what I am talking about.

As you can see, I tested with 3 different utilities and they all came back with different figures for exactly the same setup. There might also be an issue with the testing software not keeping up-to-date with the technology which will then show unexpected figures.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Don't worry, I'll delete for you.

I would test your RAID setup with the ATTO benchmarking software as I have found this one to be fairly accurate. You can get it from here: https://www.attotech.com/disk-benchmark/ but you will need to provide an email address so they can send you a download link.

Looks like tried all the 3 software the read speeds across all of the benchmark is bad  :(. Is something holding back my ssd read speed
