GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.1) problem with 32 GB RAM

GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.1) problem with 32 GB RAM
« on: January 24, 2016, 12:23:49 pm »
Hello,

I have this configuration:

GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.1)
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory (SUM=32GB (4x8GB)) 9-9-9-24
AMD FX-8300 3.3GHz 8-Core
Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Segate 500GB Barracuda 7200.12

I'm having trouble with recognizing 32GB of ram. It's only recognized 16GB. I tested motherboard and RAM and everything is ok but together is not working :( Please if someone knows how to solve this problem i would be thankful!!
I'm desperate because I've tried everything and check compatibility on official pages for ram and motherboard, several times, and everything should be perfect. But it isn't :(.
Additional information is that in BIOS is everything is configured by default and Auto. Version of bios is F2 from 2013.

Please HELP!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

Best regards :)

What does it show if you try single pairs of modules in different pairs of slots?

A possible issue is that If the modules aren't completely seated, they may not register.

Sounds like the board is a dud!

HyperX ram does not need any configuration - just plug it in (4x 8GB) and leave all else on auto. Should show full amount of ram next boot up. If not replace the board.

But POST beep is normal and all tests that I performed were ok. Nothing is bad according to tests. This must be config issue or compatibility but I don't know how to solve.

Pleeease heeelp :(

I have the same problem with my F2A88XN-wifi (latest bios), I brought 16gb HyperX 1866MHz ram and it is very unstable, usually it reboots and I only see 8gb, have tried different slots and no difference, tried with a new kit of the same HyperX 16gb 1866MHz ram, same problem..I am now running two old 2x2gb Corsair 1333MHz and it is stable..Will take my computer to a local shop tomorrow to see if they can figure it out, but my guess is there is something wrong about the Motherboard in combination with Hyperx for some reason..

Must be a rev 4.1 problem then coz my 4.0 works flawlessly with HyperX 1866
I would try a rev 5 board and see how it fares.

Norway, let us know about the outcome!

Decided to swap the 16gb 1866MHz with 16gb 1333MHz following this http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=2515.0 , will receive them next week, will give an update as to whether or not it solved the problem. hopefully it will as my current 4gb is 1333MHz and they work just fine..

Running two 8gb sticks with 1333MHz now, the system is stable and it seems my problem has been fixed :)

Unfortunately I still have problems, I tried with two different types of memory but without success, I tried XMP profile, also without success, I tried with one module,2 modules, etc ... always half of the ram is visible, I updated BIOS, again no change ... I did everything ...

Only thing that I can do is play with timing and frequencies ... but I don't know how? can anybody explain how to synchronize CPU and RAM manually  ... and maybe solve this problem.

BIG BIG thanks in advance!

BR!

Having chatted with the OP and tried to resolve this issue, at the moment we are no further forward.

Things that have been tried.

Cleared CMOS. The motherboard battery was removed overnight which totally cleared CMOS settings.

Reset CMOS, loaded Optimized Defaults saved and exited, rebooted, went into BIOS still only half of RAM showing.

Reflashed BIOS to F2 from the F3 to see if there is an issue with the newer version. No change to amount of RAM being shown.

Tested one stick of RAM in each slot. Result is only half the amount of RAM being shown every time.

Tested RAM in another PC, the full 32Gb is available.

Tried switching everything from auto with regard to MIT settings for RAM to manually set timings and voltage. BIOS locked for these settings which made this impossible to do. This is the same in both F2 & F3 versions of BIOS.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
