Front Panel USB Type C

Front Panel USB Type C
« on: May 27, 2016, 05:29:16 pm »
I am building a new system with a GA-Z170X-UD5 motherboard in a Coolermaster Maker 5 case.  The case has a USB Type C port on the front panel.  How do I connect this port to the GA-Z170X-UD5 for USB 3.1?

Thanks for any assistance.

The header for USB Type C could be this on page 35. But most case have only USB-3.0 and the header is on page 33. I have to try to look at the cables on the case coming from the from panel.

I don't know how they are set that up can't find any pictures. It might run through the same cable as the USB 3.0.

The Cooler Master MasterCase Maker 5 case specs say "USB 3.0 x1, USB 3.0 (type C) x1"

I'm guessing that both ports use a single USB 3.0 header cable (since each header supports two ports). That means you'll be using one of the F_USB30_1/F_USB30_2 headers on the motherboard (page 33). I could not find an image of the internal cables of the case.

The only USB 3.1 ports on the motherboard are the Type C and Type A connectors on the back panel (page 20). I could not find a cable that could be used to attach one of those two connectors to a header cable of a case. You wouldn't gain any ports doing that anyway.
