USB 3.0 ports not working GA-990FXA-UD3 R5
« on: September 27, 2016, 01:45:27 pm »
None of the USB 3.0 ports are working, not the on-board ports, nor the front panel ports.  USB 2.0 ports are working fine.  USB 2.0/3.0 devices work in the 2.0 ports, neither work in the 3.0 ports.

This is a new build.
MB: GA-990FXA-UD3 R5
CPU: AMD FX-9370
O/S: Kubuntu 16.04 LTS

I suspect that I need to install drivers, but I don't know where to find those.

Hello,

I don't know the full solution but there is a bug report on this.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1188654

Your USB 3.0 controller is a VIA VL805 chip.
In the BIOS you might have the option to disable IOMMU, give that a try.

If still not working you will need to modify the startup options for your kernel, ubuntu forums might offer better guidance.

My PC is evolving

Electro...

That's quite a bug!

When I was building this system, I had to enable IOMMU to get my track-ball and keyboard (plugged into USB 2.0 ports) to work.

Just now, I disabled IOMMU in BIOS ... USB 3.0 ports work, USB 2.0 ports do not work, AND Ethernet port doesn't work.

So, back to having IOMMU enabled, and will just have to be satisfied with USB 2.0 ports for now.

Thanks, though, for pointing me in the right direction.

I found this on the Ubuntu forums, this fixes the issue - USB 2.0, 3.0, and Ethernet all working now.
