Cant get Thunderbolt working on my X99P-SLI MB
« on: February 08, 2017, 03:57:40 pm »
Hello! I can't get Thunderbolt 3 working on my new computer. I installed all the software from the CD, made all Windows10 updates, but the Thunderbolt controller doesn't seem to appear in my configuration. After installing Thunderbolt drivers (I tried both from the CD and downloaded from Gigabyte website) I get the Thunderbolt icon in my bottom right corner of the screen, but the Thunderbolt manager doesn't seem to detect the Thunderbolt driver. Also runnung thunderbolt firmware update (downloaded from the motherboard's support page) results in: "No thunderbolt device detected".
I still have 1 undetected device in my device manager, but no drivers are loaded for it and I don't know what to do with it.

In BIOS Thunderbolt is enabled.

Please, help!!!
Thanks,
Dmitry.

Try deleting the "Unknown" device in Device Manager, and reboot.  Open again and force redetection of the device.  See if it loads.

Did it already... It's back again as "unknown"

I would suggest running this utility.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html?wapkw=intel+driver+utility

I'm not convinced the unknown device is the TB, but this Intel utility won't hurt anything and might help.  You should get v2.6.2 or later.  2.6.1 has a update bug intel recently fixed.

OK, the problem is solved! I had a cable inserted in the USB 3.1 type A port and it seems it somehow blocked USB type C port. As soon as I unplugged this cable, the Thunderbolt controller was detected by the driver! Everything's fine for now, thanks for your help!
