Gigabyte RX 480 G1 8gb fan settings

Hi,

I recently purchased a Gigabyte RX480 G1 8 gb videocard.

At first it didnt work well, I had a lot of PC crashes and frozen screens.
After upodating the BIOS to F8 its now working as it should.
No more crashes and the videocard is stable under heavy loads.

There seems to be problem with the fan though.
From time to time it goes all the way to the max, only for a second but you can hear it across the room.
It doesnt happen often and it seems very random, I havent yet figured out why it its doing this.
It sounds a bit like someone is starting a vacuum cleaner, as you can understand Im not so happy with this.

Is there a way to turn this off?
I want to keep the fan setting in wattman to 'automaticly' to keeped the card sufficiently cooled.

Is there a way to prevent it from going into turbo boost for a second? because this is what is sounds like.

Any help would be appriciated.

I suggest you disable Wattman and use the Gigabyte software instead. Manufacturers like Gigabyte often tweak their graphics cards and so they may not always behave the same as the reference card.

If you go into Gigabyte Xtreme software > "Fan" and select "Manual Setting" you can configure the fans speed profile to be what you like and prevent the system from "Automatically" speeding up the fan when not appropriate. I have my 470 set so that the fan speed is higher than Automatic (to keep the card cooler than Gigabyte suggest) yet still low enough to be inaudible on anything other than intensive gaming.

Oh, and you should only use AMD's drivers if your card doesn't work properly with the latest driver offered by Gigabyte.
