« on: May 26, 2017, 09:46:31 pm »
I have the GA Z77X UP5 TH motherboard, received as a giveaway from Gigabyte India Channel Partners.
We are leading media publishing network in India..

The problem is:
The motherboard will boot or not boot (with led numbers off when it wont boot).
I have to use PSU method to turn the system on or wait for few hours and turn on PC when it starts properly.

I get a Main Bios Corrupt Screen. Machine wont bootup (I have unplug ram, unplug graphics card, remove cmos battery etc. etc.)
I have to try various things to get it started.
Sometimes it starts properly, sometimes takes time.. Not sure what is wrong and where..

My BIOS  version is f4 i tried updating to latest f12 but it has reverted back to f4 now..

Please help been waiting on dead pc it shuts down automatically sometimes quick and sometimes after 2-3 days of work..

Sorry to hear about your problem.  Wanted to also mention that upgrading a corrupt BIOS image is not usually the first step I'd take.  A better option would be to attempt reflash of the same revision first.  ;)

This board didn't come with a great deal of recovery options IIRC.  ???  Does it have a BIOS button near the rear USB port on the back panel?  I don't recall off hand.  If it does, I believe it can be used for reflash.  If not.... see below

Try the following.  Reset the CMOS using the button (top right corner) or jumper (lower right) corner of the board.  Now invoke boot from the back up BIOS.  (Search if you are not familiar with the procedure).  If successful, it should copy the back up BIOS (original version) to the corrupt chip you have now.  If this doesn't occur automatically, you can try using ALT+F10 when you see the Gigabyte splash screen to initiate the copy command.

If both of these are unsuccessful, Use QFlash to manually reflash whatever rev the corrupt chip has on it now.  Loading set up defaults before this is done is important.  Please post your results.

I dont motherboard jumpers etc.
I removed the cmos battery few times and machine booted/did not..
It worked after few hours for sure everytime.

I got message that your bios is corrupt and restoring/copying bios main times..

Damn, I am soo confused, the machine works properly for 34-48 hours and then suddenly shuts down.. while i am watching movies or doing anything surprisingly.

I'm not understanding your reply. Have you reflashed the main BIOS or not?

Yes, I changed jumper settings on motherboard and reflashed main bios, still have issues.
Not sure what to do now..
Either throw away this motherboard and buy a new or keep requesting help ?

OK.  So the board has a dual BIOS, but doesn't have switches to control which it boots from.  It ran on F4 and you attempted to upgrade to F12, but this failed.  The system's back up BIOS copied F4 back to the primary BIOS chip and now you have a corrupt primary BIOS.

Support page only has F8 and >, so you cannot try to reflash F4.  So what version did you manually attempt to reflash with?   (be specific please)

Did you then try to copy the back up BIOS to the primary chip (BIOS1) using the "ALT+F10" method when you see the Gigabyte splash screen?  What were these results?

Without the original BIOS, you might be hard pressed to fix if manually flashing a newer rev fails.

Other suggestions.  Replace the MB battery (as a precaution), and test with a different PSU.  This might be the end for the board if you are unable to reflash the BIOS.
