GA-73pvm-s2h continuous long beep
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:08:54 am »
Hi,

MB: GA-73pvm-s2h
RAM: GSkill PC2-6400 (NEW)

I just recently replaced a new RAM and PC running fine until one week later, then it giving me a continuous long beep. Manual for GA-73pvm-s2h said long continuous beep on award bios mean graphics card issue (i.e. graphics card not seat properly). However, I'm using the on-board graphic card.

Any idea? Don't have any spare PC2-6400 or graphics card to test.

Thanks!

Check your connections to monitor ie: disconnect and reconnect and see if that solves your issue.

If what Fatman suggests doesn't work try clearing the cmos and the loading setup defaults.

1. Disconnected, reconnected VGA to monitor DOES NOT SOLVED (still continuous beep).
2. Clear CMOS DOES NOT SOLVED (still continuous beep).
3. Tested RAM on another DDR2 board and that RAM is function properly so RAM is in good condition.
4. Just for sake of testing, got myself a PCI Express Graphic card, insert to the board DOES NOT SOLVED (still continuous beep).

I am thinking that it is the motherboard that is broken but it seem to go through the post process (i.e. power go to the HD, HD spinning, ... then the long continuous beep).

Spec said graphic card not properly inserted (even if I am using the onboard graphic card).

The onboard graphic card must be dying (if that is the case, if I inserted a new card into the PCI Express slot, the beep still occurred).

Getting myself a POST Card, hopefully it gives me more info.

Thanks!

When you installed the PCIe graphics card did youn remember to disable the onboard graphics adapter in the BIOS. If not it would still give the continuous beep if faulty.

Dark Mantis,

How can you disabled the onboard graphic adapter in the BIOS if the POST process failed?

I will gladly introduce Mr. Hammer if it is my PC. It was someone else PC that I'm trying to fix free of charge. O well, maybe it is time to return to sender.

Thanks!

Also, reading the specs. The default setting for BIOS is to only turn on the onboard GPU IF PCI slot is empty. So if I cleared the CMOS correctly (removed the battery), and inserted the new graphic card into the PCI Express slot but the stupid beep still crying then I guess probably the mobo or CPU?

To be fair I would have to go with the motherboard graphics being faulty. You could always remove the speaker ;D

Bought a new motherboard, different but similar model GA-G31M-ES2L. PC finally boot :)

BAD NEWS: Windows 7 refused to start :) probably b/c of new motherboard.

Suck. Can't repair so the only option left is to do a new installation. ???

Asv you quite rightly said the installation will recognise the new motherboard as a change of hardware and not be happy with that. You wil need to do a clean install of Windows 7. Anyway at least you have got your problem solved. :)
