Blank screen after EF firmware change to hybrid

Blank screen after EF firmware change to hybrid
« on: June 29, 2010, 07:01:13 pm »
I tried to unlock one core in my Phenom on GA-MA790X-UD4 motherboard.
I succesfully upgraded EC Firmware in BIOS (to hybrid), saved presets, then rebooted, and LCD monitor is completely blank, no post screen, etc. CD-ROM seems to work, hard drive speeds up, fans are on. No beeps from motherboard. Any ideas?

Reset CMOS and load BIOS defaults.

It was my first move. It doesn't work. I also removed battery, with no effect.

I also tried removing graphic card, memory. No effect.

Try using vga cable only.

Doesn't help. But I have only graphics card with DVI, so I used DVI->DSUB converter.

Try removing memory and see if you get any POST beeps. Do likewise with graphics card. Double check all connections on motherboard and graphics card.

It was my second and third move. I get beeps.

You say that resetting CMOS failed. When you removed the battery did you remember to also remove the PC power lead, short out the CMOS using the CLR_CMOS pins on the Mobo  (after removing the battery) and leaving the battery out for at least 1 minute? (I would actually leave the battery out of the mobo for 2-3 minutes)

The main reason for a failure to re-set CMOS is that there is still a residue of electrical current in the motherboard.  Try clearing CMOS again, following the above steps, making sure that there is no electrical current available to the motherboard.

I removed battery for the whole night yesterday. Power cable was unpluged. But I didn't short pins. Didn't help.

Now I'm trying to use flashing in 'silent' mode. CD-ROM seems to work, it try to read something from CD.

Yes you must short out the pins to clear CMOS once the power is drained from the motherboard/power supply. I always discomnnect the mains cable/remove motherboard battery/press computer's on switch and then short pins for several minutes.
