Hi,
I am trying to find in the bios the option to have vcore at 1.3625 volts. AMD overdrive has 1.325,1.3625,1.375,ect.. But this GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3 doesn't seem to have the same options as far as voltages go. Maybe I am no looking in the right place. Can anyone tell me if they are able to set 1.3625 volt in the bios?

Hi,

You can adjust the voltages through the MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) section of BIOS.

When you are in this section there is a heading which reads: System Voltage Control this is set to AUTO by default change this to MANUAL and the parameters become available for changing.

Yes...I believe i've dont that but it jumps to 1.375.. I have a phenom II 965 125w.. AMD overdrive detects the voltage at 1.325 but the Gigabyte detects it at 1.375v which is a big difference..I can go down/up in increments of 0.25v to 1.350 and 1.325..there is nothing in between 1.350 and 1.375. i need 1.3625v.

Hi,

to be honest I can't remember what settings are available through BIOS and at the moment I am unable to reboot my machine to check for you.

You say you need 1.3625V but I don't think the BIOS allows for adjustment to that degree. Why do you need that precise voltage? What are you trying to achieve?

3.7 ghz..1.35 volts is not stable... 1.3625 is very stable...

Thanks for the info.

If you give me a little while (about 1hr) I will be able to reboot my machine and have a better look at what the available changes are in BIOS.

What BIOS version are you running?

Also, the specs on the mother board says 2600MHz Hyper Transport (5200 MT/s), does this mean I can manually set the HT to 2600?..it defaults to 2000...I am running the latest bios..I updated as soon as I got it yesterday.

Hi,

OK you are right about vcore settings within BIOS. There are only the settings that you have mentioned and I cannot get to the voltages that you need at all. It is either 1.35 or 1.375 from within BIOS as you have previously stated. The only way this will change is if Gigabyte release a new version of BIOS which allows greater control of the voltage rather than the rather lumpy .025 adjustment that is currently available. It might be worth sending a support query to Gigabyte Tech Support here: http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/tech.asp?ClassID=2&Country=Global&SourceWeb=B2C but it can take a week to 10 days for a response, to see if they can offer further help on this or even if there is a new BIOS in the pipeline.

As for the Northbridge question, this is limited by the CPU Northbridge Freq. If you try to adjust the HT Link Frequency higher than that shown in the CPU Northbridge Freq., BIOS will force a reset and give a warning about overclocking failure. Although you can set your HT Link Freq to give you 5200 MT/s you will be constrained by the CPU Northbridge Freq., unless you can get it above 2000 Mhz. However, when you get the warning dialogue about overclocking there is the option to continue rather than go into BIOS to reset the values. I didn't try this and I don't know what the consequences would be if you tried it.

Also, on the CPU support list: (  http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3263 ) it shows that the Hypertransport Bus for the majority of CPU's supported by this board is only 4000 MT/s or less so although the board can go to 5200 MT/s I'm not sure if there is a CPU or BIOS limitation that stops it from doing so.

Sorry I can't be more help but at least you know that it is not you it is the board/BIOS stopping you.

big difference? 1.375 / 1.325 = 1.04, so it means it's only 4 %. knowing gigabyte (and not only these ;)) mbs i know that you must be aware of 2 facts:

- giga usually puts some small additional voltage to all components like ram, cpu, etc to have better stability. i had a long conversation with them a few years ago as i was afraid of this. but after checking with amd it appeared giga were using the level within tolerance of the cpu (i was using default settings, not overclocking)

- every measuring device (electronic multimeter, hardware monitoring of mb, etc.) has so-called accuracy which means the value it shows is not the real one but with some % of error

just try to use 1.375 or find out if easytune 6 is capable of setting the desired value
