Is liquid cooling worth to possess in my case?

Is liquid cooling worth to possess in my case?
« on: July 10, 2010, 12:00:54 pm »
Am not an hardcore overclocker, but i will do some. Mostly i will be gaming we are talking 24/7  ;D Is it worth the money for me to even get water cooling CPU, GPU and the bridge? I got Corsair obsidian 800D, so we are talking about triple 120mm fans here. Its nice to keep the components cool, longer the life spawn and less noise. But not sure if its worth it really for my use what you think?

Well only you can really answer the question "is it worth it?"

You would have to way up the pros and cons. It would allow you to maintain lower temperatures, generally a quieter system, and if done properly look cool. If you are not into overclocking then as long as you have a decent case with plenty of air cooling, well placed, then there is probably not a lot to gain in the performance side. So really you would only be looking at a slightly quieter and cool looking system for your extra pounds and believe me you can spend a small fortune.

I do it because of the efficiency, silence almost in my case(no pun intended) and I like the looks and just playing around with my equiptment( I know it can make you go blind but I enjoy it ;D).

If you have any specific questions I would be more than happy to try and answer them for you.

Would i get any descent system for 177-266 pounds? How big risk is there that i get leaks and so on? Lets say i buy liquid cooling for CPU and GPU first then north bridge later stage, what kind of system would i get for that money? I would love to put massive amount of money on a liquid system but i don't got that money right now. My first priority is an SSD.

Personally I don't blame you for your choice to get an SSD first. You will definitely see more benefit from that than a liquid cooling setup. So buy a decent SSD and then start saving.
You would be able to put together a water cooling system for your top figure but to do it justice you would really need to spend a little more. Check out my other thread in this section "Liquid Cooling Monsters" for some ideas and droolability. Actually my latest build is on there(although I have changed it again since the photos) about page 26 I think.

But tell me about how much? I'm about to buy me some cooling so if water is way above i rather buy some air and later on save for a real nice liquid, or if i dont need much more i rather save it. My air system would be like this, CPU: Noctua NH-D14, Intake: 2* Noctua NF-P14 FLX 140mm, Exhaust: 3* Noctua NF-S12B FLX 120mm or maybe take 3* Noctua NF-P12 1300 Silent Case Fan 120mm for better results in radiator use later on. For liquid i was thinking something like this, CPU: Swiftech Apogee XT CPU Waterblock  ( is Chrome or chopper better? ), GPU: Bitspower Matte Black Black Freezer VG-A5870 - BP-WBVGA5870-MBK, North bridge: Have no idea tips maybe? Pump: No idea tips please, Radiator: Swiftech MCR320-QP Stackable 3X120mm - Black, it say it works best with low or medium strong fans, how would it work with mine? Reservoir: some cool looking or is it a difference? would my power supplier be strong enough? Corsair HX750 and cables, screw and so on. what you think what would you add or change?

P.S.: I will throw in a fan controller too.

I've done my own list not the same as your suggestions. If you want to go for them it would probably cost you another £140 or so

Ok lets do a little adding up

pump                                   £35
reservoir                             £15
radiator 240                        £35
CPU block                            £50
Graphics block                     £70
connectors                          £30
pipe                                     £15
Liquid                                   £10
Total                         £260
Plus add a bit for delivery

Please bear in mind that this is for an ok system but not top quality. At least it gives you a ball park figure.

Funny the figures looked tidier than that before I posted them.

I would also add that you would probably want to add some lights to enhance the effect. They aren't expensive but would need to be taken into account.

Sweet beans, I will probably go for the air cooling for now and the SDD, and save for a 355-532£ system. I will need the fans anyway, i will probably visit liquid cooling monster when the time has come Moahahahahaha  :P Thanks for the help.

Hey Dude, I wouldn't diss your gear like that. No on the contrary the items that you picked were very good but that doesn't mean that you won't change your mind as you go along, I know I have and still do. ;) If you want to look at my build it's on page 26 at the bottom. Not that it looks the same now, I mean that was a whole month ago and things just cant stay the same. I have stripped it all out and painted the inside all black now before rebuilding. The lighting is better now too. Too bitty before and Ive tidied up the wiring a fair bit.
