My GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX :)
« on: July 19, 2010, 07:16:38 am »
Wow just wow, I can't begin to express how happy and satisfied I am with Gigabyte, this is my first Gigabyte board coming from Foxconn and Asus. I have no bads things to say about Foxconn nor do I about Asus, however this Gigabyte board has made me a Gigabyte fanboy before even actually being one. (if that makes sense) If your in the market for a 890fx board I would def get this.

Way to go. Another happy bunny.  :D

I have to say that I have been a Gigabyte fan for ages so I understand where you're coming from and I can't see myself ever using another Mobo brand.

Well I am glad that you are so happy with your purchase. Gigabyte do make quality products and whilst they have problems, the same as any other manufacturer, they are few and far between. We look forward to seeing more of you on this forum.

I was like them once, until I bought the GA-770TA-UD3 ;)    Although to be fair, the memory I was using wasn't QA'd which is why I seemed to be experiencing problems.

Selling a couple of  GA-770TA-UD3 on Ebay - any takers ?

You did have a problem that was very annoying and that is understood. We have all been there and felt the same way but you just have to solve it and move on. This is how we all learn. ;)

Yes, time is a good healer.....

I wouldn't describe it as a great learning experience.    I've not really learnt anything other than the Corsair memory I've bought doesnt work properly with the GA770TA-UD3.

The only lesson has been to choose QA'd memory and run the advanced memory tests for at least 2 hours before installing Windows 7.

But, thanks for your council in those frustrating times.

Frustrating and to some extent I've been there with my own rig and the old "It's not on the QV list" is a really nice get out of jail card where memory is concerned.

Too often we are told that the memory is not on the QV list and that is the issue. Sorry, but that isn't always the case. A lot of recent memory issues on the AM3 platform in particular, have been due to AMD and their AM3 CPU's  in-built memory controller. Gigabyte, like a lot of other manufacturers are applying a workaround with new BIOS but the underlying problem is still there. Some of the AM3 generation of AMD CPU's do not really like memory running above 1333 Mhz no matter what the memory brand. Of course AMD and Mobo manufacturers don't want to shout about this because it doesn't sell products.

A little test: Try and find a gigabyte AM3 board that says in the current advertising that it supports 1600 Mhz memory. I bet there aren't many!  :o

In the spirit of exploration, how much are you selling for? Or better still in another thread you say:
I'd gladly send the GA770TA-UD3 motherboard and DIMMs to Gigabyte for anlaysis as the supplier won't exchange them.

I don't work for Gigabyte and I can't really afford to buy a motherboard that I won't use but if we could come to some arrangement it would be good to see if this board shows the same problems with my Phenom ii X4 CPU and Corsair Memory as my own GA-790XTA-UD4 board originally did and, if it does, is the problem still there with my Phenom ii X6 CPU?  It might help clarify the situation a bit and it would also show if it is really the memory at fault or if the CPU, BIOS or something  else is to blame.

You might like to contact me via PM to see if, maybe, we can solve this mystery. You have the motherboard, I have the CPU's, 1600 Mhz Corsair Dominator Memory and the time.  ;)

I Look forward to hearing from you.

That sounds like  a very fair offer absic, I would think IceColdBeer would jump at the opportunity, I would in that situation.
