GA-170X Gaming 7, 6700K Stock Temperature Problems? Help
« on: August 26, 2018, 12:56:03 am »
So I am using the GA-170X Gaming 7 with 6700K Stock and I am having Temperature Problems. I have to undervolt my CPU To a negative offset of -0.65 for my Temperature to stay cooler.

From Just gaming on Rainbow 6 Siege my temperatures get up to 73c and that's while having Undervolted the CPU as mentioned above.

I've had this issue with the same motherboard 2 years straight even after I got the replacement, I had the same issue. I don't know what to do. This is my first Gigabyte Product, the Customer RMA service is good but I just don't know about their products.

I am desperate and at wits end. Many of my games do not work properly Such as Black Ops 3 on any settings, or A way Out, almost any game has weird stutter problem as if the Computer is having problems processing the information.

I am currently selling this Board on eBay. Should I RMA again? or just sell it and buy a Different Board?

Anyone had Temperature issues with their GA-170x Gaming 7 Motherboard? I updated BIOS and nothing changes. Using latest BIOS.

GTX 970, 6700k Stock, 16GB RAM. Please comment. It would help a lot to have an idea at least knowing I am not the only one.

Greetings,
Many have had your same complaint.  You said latest BIOS, but a version number is more helpful,  as latest today might not be latest tomorrow.

It has been said that F21 is the safest "best" BIOS for this board unless you are F8 or earlier.  F20 was reported as a failure.

I would not recommend negatively under-volting your system to achieve a desired temp threshold as I believe you will only introduce instability elsewhere.  Stepping and voltage are tied together in unexplainable ways on this series of boards.  Stock voltage for 6700K 1.2v.  I don't discount what you are seeing.  I'm sure idle temps are 10-20c above what you were anticipating.  Things about your system you left out....  Almost everything. Case, Cooling, brand / type RAM, etc.  You can evaluate if your have adequate cooling.  But again, many have complained of this issue with this series chipset.

Not sure if my reply was much help.  Basically just saying others have similar complaints and that F8 or F21 Would be the BIOS I would use if I owned this board. Tell us more about your CPU cooler.

To answer all your question
I am currently Using F22m   BIOS which seems to be the latest for my Board on the Gigabyte Site. I will try F21 and see what happens, and thank you so much for the information you have provided, I have found no sources online or Forums where this issue is addressed, and I am glad to know I am not the only one who has had this issue, so thank you.

Idle tems are 32-33c.
Case is Cooler Master Mastercase  Pro 5  with 2 144mm front Intake fans, 2 Top 144mm blowing out, and 1 144mm rare exhaust fan.

For CPU Cooler I am using the Cryorig M9i. The CPU is running all Stock. For RAM Memory I have 2X8GB GSkill Ripjaws from the QVL.

If you know of anything, any recommendations please let me know and if you have any links to discussions on this topic please do share them with me.

This is first replacement Motherboard from Gigabyte and I am having the same issue like the first one. I am trying to sell it but could RMA one last time see if that works. But I just want a different brand board. Technical support for Gigabyte is good but this board despite being nice is useless due to the Temperature issues.

Many thanks. Look forward to your reply.

EDIT: Do you recommend that I Should go ahead and Flash to F21 BIOS?

EDIT: Updated to BIOS F21, temperatures remain the same. Hopefully it will sell soon.
