Z370 AORUS Gaming 3 NVME RAID 0
« on: September 14, 2018, 07:59:21 pm »
Hi, anotherquestion from me!

so currently I have a single 250gb 860evo on my board, I hoped to get a 500gb boot drive but alas at time I ppurchased I just ended up with the 250gb version as I didnt want to wait and the price was good at the time!
So I was considering adding another one into the mix in RAID 0 to get to my originally desired 500GB, + have the benefit of what I believe would be a small boost in Read speeds and a reasonable boost in write speeds, I'm aware this performance is not gonna blow me away, is just an added bonus...
On my board on m.2 slot is shared with Sata Port 0 I belive I'm wonderin and cannot find clear info, on if the other slot has shared bandwidth with anything else, would be silly to cripple my GPU in exchange for a bit more boot drive space, I'd have to find another way around it...
Anywya is the a feasable solution and will it hinder the performance of anything else on the board in the process?

Thanks again for any avice offered :)

Greetings,
You can add another 860 for RAID 0 no problem.  I'm running 850 Pros on my Z97.  I started running RAID about 19-20 yrs ago, starting with Windows 2000.  Just been a staple for me ever since.

More recently, its not really needed any more, especially if you are using m.2's.  But RAID 0 will give you a little bump, so if you can afford it, why not.

nVME support in the newer BIOS's is easy to implement.  Set and forget.  The only catch are BIOS updates.  You'll lose your RAID if you update your BIOS, as the configuration is lost when the BIOS resets itself to defaults.  Just something to be mindful of.  A back up of your system is all that's needed to recover.

Last, none of your devices will share resources with one another.  PCIEx16 runs at full speed unless you populate the second X4 slot.  You wouldn't want to do this as the board does not support x8 for the second card.

None of the SATA3_0~5 ports are affected unless you populate one or both of the m.2 slots, so again, you're fine.

Hope this helps.
