Hello,

Please help, i have been struggling for days trying to install windows via bootable USB.

I get to the stage where it's about to install and then it asks me for drivers. I have done research and this is due to the usb 3.0 ports not being able to work properly out of the box. I have put all the drivers on the usb, obtained from the gigabyte website, including the SATA/PCIe RST premium controller which is says on the site is for installing windows via USB, and the drivers wont install. So i am now in limbo state.

What am i supposed to do? This mobo ONLY has usb 3.0 ports so there is nothing else i can do?

Mother board is the Z390 M Gaming mATX and i am using an i9900k cpu.

Tom

Greetings Tom,
We're missing a lot of information here.

What OS are you trying to install?
What device are you trying to install to?

You may also want to tell us more about your install media.  Is it OEM.  How you made it?, etc.

Sorry, here are the details.

ISO downloaded from Windows website (windows 10) put onto a usb (made bootable). This seems to work as i get to the "install" windows screen and everything looks fine.

Then when i click "install" windows, it throws up a missing drivers screen and asks me to "install drivers" for your media device screen.

I am using a brand new Samsung 860 pro 4TB SSD and this shows up in BIOS.

From my reasearch it seems when this problem occurs during windows install its due to people using a usb 3.0 port and putting the usb stick into a usb 2.0 port resolves it. Also installing the drivers required solves it, as it seems the usbc 3.0 ports cant talk to the SSD without additional drivers. I only have usb 3.0 ports on this mobo and the drivers downloaded from the gigabyte website shows up in the windows install process but it wont install them. I've also tried the drivers from the intel website for SATA/PCIe, and it just sends a message saysing "make sure new drivers are correct" etc.

It would be great to hear from people with this new board and how they managed to install windows via USB ISO?

Tom

Update - so i discovered there is an internal USB 2.0 connector on the board and plugged in a usb 2.0 adapter and the same things occurs, wont install windows and stuck at a "install drivers" screen. So it appears not to be USB related.

Could this be SSD related? Or a BIOS setting thats wrong?

(I have experimented with lots of the SSD settings and AHCI etc is enabled)

Tom,
Thanks for the information.  So this is the error, "A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard Disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD or USB flash drive with the driver on it Please insert it now. Note: if the installation media is in the windows DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it from this step."

There are not any dedicated USB 2.0 ports on the board.  The USB 3.0 ports are only backwards compatible.  There are dedicated USB 2.0 internal headers, but again, you'd have to connect something to them for dedicated 2.0 support.

Here's what you can try.  Start with the USB stick plugged into any 3.0 port.  When you encounter the above message, move the USB stick to another port..  just not the red one.  Click cancel and it might allow you to continue.

Note: If your case has a USB 2.0 front panel connector, move the USB stick to that port instead and click cancel.

Let me know if it solves your issue.
