Gigabyte RMA trying to tell me that a 1060 is faster than a vega 56?

As above, my vega 56 died and I returned it under warranty. Normally you'd expect a fast turn-around but it turns out that Gigabyte-UK has to wait for cards from China to fulfil their RMA processes.

Now gigabyte are trying to tell me that a 1060 is faster than a vega 56 and I should take the trade in order to get the rma process completed quicker.

The Vega 56 is a much, much more powerful card than a 1060 right?

The Vega56 is faster over 85% of the time running below 4K.  It also comes with 2GB more RAM than the typical 6GB config of a 1060.

There is only about 12 months difference between manufacturing dates, but typically, newer tech is better when it comes to hardware performance and when taking depreciation / longevity into consideration.

If they cannot fulfill your RMA, I would buy something better, (maybe even a refurb) and sell the replacement when it comes.  This gets you back in the "game' and offsets the purchase of your new card.  Not ideal, but worth considering.

Well I know this just as much as anyone who has the slightest knowledge about GPU's. The biggest kick in the teeth is the RMA department actually SAYING it's a faster card - it's laughable

Ya, Its not.  The 56 is the base model vega and although not a heavy hitter, it does out perform the 1060.  You can wait it out or move forward.

Well for some reason, they've seen the light and are sending me out a replacement Vega 64 - not sure how much of an upgrade the extra compute units bring but an upgrade is an upgrade!
