Winload.efi error with nvme on Aorus Z390 master

Hi all

I’m having a nightmare at the moment trying to install Windows 10 on my PC.
It’s recently been upgraded to an i7-9700k with a 2080 super.

My main drive is a Samsung 256Gb SM950 nvme ssd.

The problems I’m having is that Windows will install ok and then straight away keep freezing stating an error with winload.efi upon restart.

Firstly it doesn’t show it in the bios.
It shows up as a drive to install Windows to during the setup.

I’ve reset cmos, disabled/enabled csam, tried loads of things with the bootsect command and nothing alters it. Drive has been wiped using diskpart and still it fails.

It goes all the way through the Windows installation and setup ok, but once it boots into Windows is then freezes after a short time and that’s it. Winload.efi error on reboot.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Please provide more details about your system

Model number of the 950 m.2
How old is this drive and was it purchased new
Which slot its installed in
What other devices do you have installed and connected (which ports) be specific (storage)
What BIOS revision you are running
What media are you installing from USB stick, etc
How was it created

Unless you have a specific need for Legacy support, CSM should be disabled
This will allow you to use UEFI for the boot device, secure boot after windows is installed and allow you to format GPT (Use shift+F10 and the diskpart command) during install when selecting the target or destination disk.

What I would do:

Verify the integrity of my installation media

Verify your BIOS settings
winload.efi is likely due to an incorrect BIOS setting or corrupt formatting

Boot the install using F12 (select one time boot device) and ensure "UEFI:USBXXX" (example) is selected.  If you don't see a UEFI prefix, something is not set correctly in BIOS (assuming you don't need legacy support) 

Reinstall the OS
"CLEAN" the drive properly to ensure all residual formatting has been removed (use diskpart)

Format GPT

Answer the above questions and report your progress.
