GA-B150N and question about 2xFan in 1xSYS_FAN
« on: January 28, 2020, 12:22:55 pm »
Hi,

I want to connect 2 NOCTUA NF-A14 PWM fans in 1 SYS_FAN connection on MB. I am planning to use Y (NA-SYC1) adapter from Noctua to do this, but there is warning on Noctua site that MB need to support 12W (or 9.6W) and there is no info about that in manual. Any help?

Greetings,
I don't recall off the top of my head how much power FAN headers supply or are capable of.  Why not just use a header for each fan?

You'll get accurate monitoring in SIV, the BIOS and SMART Fan.  Maybe yo have a reason for wanting to do this you have not shared?

The goal is silence :) I want to have 2 x low RPM fans (2x 300RPM) in front and 1 in the back (1x 600RPM). The Noctua Y adapter can still control PWM, so the only problem is I dont know how many watts I can get from one header.

FYI NOCTUA NF-A14 only need 1.5W, so there is high chance it will works, but better to be sure - I dont want to damage MB.

Standard is 12V at up to 1A.  Supports up to 12W.  You can connect safely.

I am into silence as well.

I have 2 Z390 rigs running in different cases, only difference being amount of installed RAM and vid card

1st system is installed in HaF 922 2x140mm case fans (one front, one top), H80iv2 cooler rear in push/pull (connected to the pump).  Corsair PSU is 0 RPM.  I don't think its fan has ever turned on.  System is quiet. Fans spin down to 450RPM.  Love it.

2nd system built in Corsair iCUE220T (non Airlow tempered glass front) - 3x120mm in front, h80iv2 rear (same push pull) Same PSU TX850 0 RPM.  I am absolutely amazed at this thing.  The fans spin down to 650RPM.

The static pressure and airflow is great.  I have never used water cooling before.  Was nervous about putting liquid above an $800 card.  Its worth it.  I will probably never use air cooling on a CPU again.

Nice rigs, mine is little silly, because I have components from ITX config in mATX case. It looks hilarious. Also I have NH-L9x65 on i7-7700 and M.2 disk on back side of MB, thats why I need good air flow in my case ;D The funny thing is I have funds for upgrades, but everything works just fine and I see no reason to buy better hardware now.
But I am prepering for something better, thats why I change case and PSU, so base is here. Thanks for answer.

That looks great.  Super clean and I'm sure you have good airflow.

I end up using my Z97 much of the time.  I keep my machines under my desk so have never had a real need for RGB.  Cool to look at though.  The G-Skill Trident Z RAM is awesome and used with the RGB 2.0 Gigabyte App allows full customization of lighting.  It does not support my RTX 2070 or 2080 (EVGA) video cards so these remain white.  I have the upper left quadrant (zone) turned off.  You can't see it behind the cooler anyway.  Sorry off topic.

Noctua fans are some of the best for sure.
