I have a server/workstation mobo. It has been working fine. Updated bios to R10 and now BMC is not working. Tried updating firmware but I get "Access KCS error KCSD timeout" and "BMS is protected"

Anyone else seen this ?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I seriously doubt you will find anyone here, myself included who has hands on experience with the Baseboard Management Controller on a Gigabyte Mu-70.

You haven't really provided much for us to go on.  I assume it worked before, and doesn't now after upgrading to R10.  This appears to be the shipping BIOS?  None of the BMC FW updates seem to be tied to a particular BIOS version.  Information is limited.

Is it possible your JAVA version or security settings are keeping the update from completing?

What version of BMC did you have?

If it were me, I'd contact support so you don't get any deeper than you are now.

Thanks For reply,

I have posted a question to technical support but they quote 3 to 6 days for a reply.

I have done a bit more digging the bios updated okay but the issue has occurred after I did the firmware update to version 8.88_4.88. The BMC is no longer initialising on start-up.

I have tried to revert to the earlier firmware versions and I get the KCS error during update. 8.88_4.88 updates ok no error but bmc not working.

If I get a response from technical support I will post here for future reference.

Thanks
Paul

Thank you for clarifying.  Have a clearer picture now.  I'm not encouraging this, but have you tried an earlier version of the BMC?  _4.85 or _486?  Result?

I think waiting for support will be the safest bet.

Yes thanks.  I tried 8.06_4.06 same error. I have noticed that the download for latest version 888_488 does not inc the board compatibility listing whereas the other downloads do. Beginning to think this may be an error on the part of gigabyte.
