H110M-S2H doesn't recognize SSD
« on: June 15, 2020, 08:22:49 am »
My motherboard- H110M-S2H is brand new and I want it to work with a Sandisk 120Gb (brand new, as well) SSD. the problem is that the mobo doesn't recognize the SSD. I've tried to connect it to the all 4 sata port, but to no avail. just to check and make sure that the SSD is ok, I've connected it to an older pc that I have and it's recognized. I guess that some settings needs to be changed and I'll appreciate your help on what needs to be done. Here it what appears under the "Peripherals" tab
Sata controller(s)      Enabled

Sata mode selection         AHCI

Aggressive LPM support       Enabled

Sata 0         not installed
Software preserve        Unknown
Port 0              Enabled
Hot plug          disabled
Configured as Esata      Hot plug supported.
If I understand it right - the first three lines are common for all the four sata ports and then there are four ports "0" to "3" with the settings for each port.
Thanks for your help.

Have you tried any other drive like a DVD or reg Hard drive? If it isn't showing then there is something wrong with the board.

Under the BIOS Features in these two areas does any thing show up?

Greetings,
Please provide your full systems specs, including all connected devices and peripherals.

What BIOS rev are you running and did you update the BIOS by any chance?

Thanks

Hi
The motherboard is of course - GA H110M-S2H, cpu - G4400, 8Gb ram and 450W power supply, keyboard & mouse. I'm only at the beginning of putting it together and I want to use the SDD, not a HDD, so nothing more is connected. bios version - F20. it's the version that came on the mb. never touched it.

Greetings,
And the model of the SSD you are connecting is?

850?  (etc)

Do you have any fan controllers, splitters, etc installed?

Do you have Fast or Ultra Fast Boot enabled? (disable if so)

Have you performed a CLR_CMOS?

Sorry, silly me, the SSD is a SanDisk model SDSSDA-120G.
no fan controllers installed.
there is Fast Boot - it's disabled.
haven't done CLR_CMOS.
hope it helps. frustrating.

One other thing is I have seen where sata cable some times will not go in all the way. If you have a sata cable with out the click on it try that. Because you are using basically a standard drive connection on the SSD.

:) Thanx dmdilks. I followed your advise and it did the trick! it's odd, because I've used the cable to connect the HDD and it was ok, but I'm not going to argue with the facts.

I have never ran into a problem with HDD, but SSD very common on some brands. Not all have this problem and I always when pushing the cable in. Then I always will pull on it to see it has connected.

Plus they really not a standard on how they are made. If look at a lot of plug on cables you find some are longer then others. Plus glad it all work out for you too.

@dmdilks,

Nice!

Thanks

I build two of the new 10th Gen CPU computers. The only thing I have run into is that when using some video cards. I have use RX-580 & 590 cards and when booting, one board black screen and one with all funny colors on the Bios screen. To run those cards you have to change from UEFI to Legacy on the CSM.

Plus on both of them they wouldn't go into sleep mode or come out of just monitor turning off. The funny part the cards are both XFX cards. The RX-580 works fine, but the RX-590 fatboy doesn't
