M.2 on Old X58a UDR3 rev 1.0
« on: January 21, 2021, 01:58:38 pm »
I Lost my old hard drive so need replacement, intrigued with the option to fit PCIE Riser card and a M.2 Board using the samsung or western digital device .
Will it take the new config . ?
MB is GA X58A Udr3 rev 1.0 Yes its old but functional and really runs quite fast.

Or do I play safe and just plug in new HDD.

Greetings,
Play it safe and use a standard SSD.

My Plextor AGT-512B1p PCXe-1 card works fine in my ancient 1366 Asus P6T. The board is like 11 or 12 yrs old. LOL

Just make sure you put a card for M.2 SSD's goes into a PCXe slot and not one of the small ones.

I Note Shadow spots reply and would normally agree but for £58 plus £6 fro riser card its seems a reasonable solution.

Might just try it ?

I'm not saying it can't be done, only that I wouldn't invest time or money in (x58) 12 yr old technology.

After reading further decided to stick with WD Blue Caviar 500 GB standard Hdd for £39
There was a suspected issue that the Bios would not recognise it.
Although an old card it does the job slightly overclocked.
Ideal for the internet use I need.
