Z690 AORUS ELITE AX
« on: November 09, 2021, 06:26:03 pm »
Well I just got this board with a i5-12000K. When installing windows on a M.2 NVMe drive. This is very sad that we now went back in time.

You have to: If you want to install an operating system on an M.2 PCIe SSD, you need to install the Intel® RST
VMD Controller driver first.

It could be that I'm using a M.2 NVMe 3.0 ssd too. But more likely not.

Ah! The joys of embracing the latest tech.

Does seem strange though, that you have to install the drivers before you can access the PCIe SSD. You would think that, by now, that part of the system was well established.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Yes and the drive will not even show up in the NVMe configuration setting in the Bios. It is in the Intel rapid storage technology. I'm still noising around in the Bios to find stuff. The book is basically trash. LOL

Plus the CPU is the i5-12600k not the i5-12000. LOL

One other thing when it comes to the the CPU cooler. Don't jumping through hoops to get a bracket for the back of the board to mount the cooler too.

I have a Tried the Cooler Master ML240L & ML120L liquid cooler. The mounting bracket works perfect.

On the Thermal-take TH120 liquid cooler mounting bracket. All you have to do is File off the little nub in the slot. So now the screw will move back forth in the slot.

So check out your bracket first before you order one!!!

Hi,

I wondered if you have considered air cooling instead of liquid cooling? Noctua have a couple of coolers and provide a bracket without having to do any modding.

Yes at one time I use nothing but air cooling. But with the prices for the liquid cooling. The CPU on this board is at 21c to 23c at idle. Would a air cooler do that more likely not.

I just got 2 Refurbished Cooler Master Master-Liquid ML240L RGB 240mm MLW-D24M-A20PC-R1 for $50 ea.

Plus this is info on the site I bought them:

CPU Cooler Only No Other Accessories Included (Everything was there in the box)

Refurbished Not In Original Packaging. (It was in the Original Box)

May show signs of use which may include scuffs, scrapes, dings, dents, dust, marks, or paint missing. (It was like brand new)

So it was like a New Liquid Cooler.

Hi,

I see refurbished but like new, well that's a good way of saving some cash. If it is straight forward to make the modification even better.

The cooler master bracket there is no modification.

The holes on all boards from 1156 to 1200 are all the same. 75mm x 75mm. On the new 1700 boards the holes are 78mm x 78mm.

On the cooler master bracket the screws will move out to 82.55mm x 82.55mm.

Now not all liquid coolers companies do their brackets the same. I was just lucky to have the right ones. lol

Had to do a Bios update.

The update went well and the NVMe does shows up now. But now it will not boot into windows. It gets to a point when windows is booting it BSOD. It is telling me the stop code inaccessible boot device.

But I got everything working again. Had to do a reset on windows. But the update did fix the bios problem with the NVMe ssd now showing up in the NVMe Config area.
