Fails to mount M.2 980PRO on motherboard as Windows disk

I have a Z690 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4 motherboard
The motherboard BIOS recognizes the M.2 980PRO disk and writes an SSD
Intel 12900 K processor

I'm trying to install Windows on M.2 980PRO and the Intel driver does not recognize the M.2 980PRO hardware

Assembled at the top of the M2A CP board

Image of disk in BIOS

What can be done to install M.2 on the board
Windows is unable to detect M.2 as a disk

Windows 10 can not get Windows 11

Hi,

Reading the manual on page 25 it states the following:

"If you want to install an operating system on an M.2 PCIe SSD, you need to install the Intel
® RST
VMD Controller driver first. Refer to Chapter 4 for more instructions."

The link for the manual is here: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_z690-aorus-elite-series_e.pdf?v=60f2256c19f7f819b00873abc063c79a

You could copy the link into your web browser or use the manual that came with your motherboard.

Also, another forum member posted an item concerning this.

Hope this helps,

From a competitor's website (Asus), but it has the steps for IRST (VMD) driver install with pics:

https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1044458/

Note: This should only be used for reference.

Once the disk is detected, you can use shift+F10 and diskpart to clean, then convert the drive to GPT format.

I need to read up on the Z690 chipset.  I wonder if W11 will at some point contain native drivers for the Intel VMD controller.  As both dmdilks and Absic have indicated, this in many ways is a huge step backwards.
