Sound cards that will fit in the PCI-E 1x slot? (GA-P55-UD5)
« on: August 03, 2010, 02:35:52 pm »
I have a GA-P55-UD5 motherboard that I just installed two graphics cards in. This meant I had to place my Sound blaster card in between the two cards and it feels a bit tricky with the two fans on the upper card (Gigabyte GTX 460 1Gb OC).

Thus I wonder: are there any PCI-E sound cards that are short enough to fit in the 1x slot above the first graphics card?

You have three PCIe x16 slots as well as the X1 slots so why not use the spare x16 slot? Just because you have a PCIe x1 card doesn't mean that you have to use an x1 slot.

I think you should try the on board sound its likely as good if not better then your old PCI Sound blaster card...really on board sound has got so much better now.

I would agree peter that the onboard sound has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years however generally the dedicated sound card is usually better and often doesn't suffer from the same problems as the onboard sound does like latency and static noise.

I do like to have a "real" sound card.

The reason I want to place it up top, so to speak, is because I dont want to have a big card infront of the fans on the graphic cards.

I do like to have a "real" sound card.

Your only option then is to get a SUPREME FX II off ebuy and hope it works.

That bad huh? Guess I'll just stick with my current card then. Thanks! :)

I think that if that is the best you can get to fit then don't waste your time and money. It won't be any better than the onboard solution.
