GA-MA770-UD3 + 1055t(1090t)
« on: August 08, 2010, 12:34:39 am »
Hi,

I am thinking about upgrading to a GA-MA770-UD3 along with either a AMD 1050t or 1090t, however obviously the MA770 is a AM2+ motherboard and only supports the latest Hex AM3 CPUs in the latest BIOS update. I currently have an Intel build so I will not have any available AMD CPU to update the BIOS on, can I still update the BIOS using QFlash on the AM3 CPU even though it isn't supported. I have read various other forums saying it is possible however I would really like a concrete answer before I put my hard earned £££ down.

Cheers Guys,
Steve

No this is not possible as far as I am aware Steve. The board will just not recognise the chip to even POST. So you wouldn't be able to run the update. If you wait until absic comes on the forum he will substantiate that I am sure.

Recently did some testing with a 770TA and when I tried dropping in my 1090T, without doing a BIOS update, it gave me a lovely little message along the lines of "This CPU isn't supported" and would let me go no further. I had to swap it out for a supported CPU  to update BIOS.

If you are concerned about your board not having correct BIOS version you could ask your supplier to update it for you when you place the order.

Thanks Guys.

I'll contact my supplier and ask if it is possible for them to update it before it is shipped. If that fails I'll just buy a used Sempron CPU of eBay for around £10 and update it myself.

Yes, if you can get hold of a cheap CPU that is compatible with your mobo that is the best way to go as you then have control over what is being done.
Whenever I upgrade I hold onto old CPU's, RAM etc., for just this type of scenario.
