UD3R - "SATA Port0-3 Native model"
« on: August 07, 2010, 11:46:46 pm »
Hi...

My motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev. 1.0)
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

If I set the ICH SATA Control Mode as "IDE", should I Enable or Disable the "SATA Port0-3 Native model"?

Thanks.

I don't think that it will make any difference anyway but I would set it to disabled  as that is the default setting.

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode :

Disabled = Sata in mode Legacy IDE (Windows 9x/me)

Enabled  = Sata in mode Native IDE (Xp)

Enable is default for SATA Port0-3 Native model.

No I'm afraid that you're mistaken there Peter the manual says:

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode (Intel ICH10R South Bridge)
Specifies the operating mode of the integrated SATA controllers.
Disabled Allows the SATA controllers to operate in Legacy IDE mode.
In Legacy mode the SATA controllers use dedicated IRQs that cannot be shared with other device. Set this option to Disabled if you wish to install operating systems that do not support Native mode. (Default)

However I stand by my original statement that it will probably make no difference.

The default is Enable as when you Load the Optimized BIOS defaults it sets it to Enable the manual is never listed 100% correctly.

If you're sure then we will just chalk that up to another mistake in the manual then. ::)

Hi Peter...

If my memory serves me well, the setting is "Disabled" after the "Load Optimized BIOS Defaults" for UD3R (Rev. 1.0).

I already installed the Windows XP Pro SP3 with the setting set to "Disabled". Hopefully it will not be much difference for Windows XP with either Enabled/Disabled mode.

Thanks.

From MS about Native Serial ATA Mode & Emulating (as in Legacy) Parallel ATA Mode
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/serialATA_FAQ.mspx#EPB

The reason why manuals may list it wrong is because its been copy & pasted over as this setting has been around for a long time when the default was needed for old OS but now its no longer needed for new versions of Windows it may be needed for other OS but not for new versions of Windows like XP SP3.
