GA-X58A-UD5 not posting

Hello all.
I have just purchased this system from a guy who has had it running.
I have removed the SSD and installed a Hitachi 500gb Drive.
The system has no OS installed yet.
Specs are as follows.

Gigabyte EX58 UD5 Motherboard
Intel i7 920 D0 Stepping (clocked at 3.4ghz )
XFX 5870 1gb Graphics Card
6GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
Corsair H50 Hydro all in one water cooler
1 TB Samsung SATA HDD
500gh Hitach SATA HDD
Corsair 650w Power Supply
Lian Li Black PC60 Case
# LG 22x SATA DVD-RW

I plugged it into my monitor and powered up. System started and reported error 26.
Checked all connections and reseated the RAM. Held down Clr CMOS and powered up.
System got to FF on the mobo display but nothing on the Screen!!
Cable checked, Monitor checked Graphics card swapped for a working one still no post and no signal!
Removed battery, powered up and got 5h.
Tried again after resetting bios button and get 26.
I've given up for tonight.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Please go easy with me as I went straight from Amigas to Latops.
This is my 4th Pc but my first desktop!!

Quick Update.
I've tried removing the battery from the motherboard and waiting for a minute.
The machine managed to boot through to an FF code and produced an image of sorts on the screen.
I got a white background with thin pink interference blobs.
Tried a reboot and got error26 again...... and again...... and again.
Tried the same trick over again and got...........
You guessed it. Error 26.
How do I properly reset the motherboard?
How the heck do i get this thing working?
Tempted to take it into the PC shop but get the feeling I will leave some £100 lighter and still with error 26.   :'(

Have you installed RAM in good place : color is white for the first bank ?

Can you run BIOS SETUP ( key SUPPR ) ?

Also have you tested with an old Graphics PCI card ?

Error FF is not an error that is message for BOOT Attempt

I have also FF when my computer run ( same card as you )

Pierre

Hi Pierre,
Ram installed in the white slots 3x 2gb sticks. Have tried booting with each stick separately and same error. Ram reseated nicely now.

You don't mention which BIOS version you are running but try updating it to the latest version.

Hello Dark Mantis

But friend has :

Cable checked, Monitor checked Graphics card swapped for a working one still no post and no signal!

I think cannot flash bios

I have tried infos for error 26 with GA-X58A-UD5 , infos found are : Graphics card incompatible or problem with 6 pins / 8 pins connectors

Thanks for the extra info Pierre. my suggestion would be to remove the motherboard from it's case and fit just the CPU with heatsink and fan and a buzzer. Connect this to the power supply and see what beep messages you get. Start from nothing and build up from there.

Thanks for the advice so far.
I'm afraid I have no idea what bios. I cant get to a state where I can see anything to tell what it is or to enable me to reload / flash a new bios.
Monitor works with my Laptop as does the cable which works with my brothers PC. Graphics card came out of my brothers PC to check and has been returned and is still working.
I may have to investigate the buzzer technique but as a non electrical type I'd rather leave that to a pro if it comes to it.

The buzzer is simly a small device with two wires that attaches to the motherboard near where the on/off switch and reset switch etc connect. It is labelled in your manual near the front. Very easy job and about £1.50
Don't worry we can guide you. As long as you can follow instructions you will be fine.

Just had an idea ;D Have you checked that the 24 pin and the 8 pin cables are attached to the motherboard? And the PCIE cables are connected to the graphics card?

OK, I can cope with that I'm sure.
Just unplugged the second optical drive power and rebooted. Now have error 5d?
I think its mocking me now!   :D

Ok, continue to remove all the cables from the motherboard and then post back. Make sure that you observe anti static rules while doing anything with the components.

OK. Thanks for the info so far.
Have disconnected every drive.
We're down to the Graphics card, memory, power supply, motherboard, fans, Cpu and cooler!
Error 5d!
Will give it a rest for tonight and may not get a chance tomorrow but will keep you informed.
