Ram on GA-790FXTA-UD5

Ihave some Ram KHX12800D3/2G- 1.7-1.9V from an old motherboard.

I would like if they are usable with my  GA-790FXTA-UD5.

Can anyone answer that ?

Is it possible to overclock the motherboard for more ram volt.

Ihave understand that my motherboard is suitable for 1.5V only.

Is that correct?

I have an AMD Phenome 965 X4 black edition.

Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit

Radeon 5870 grafic card

OK, in theory your RAM should work with your CPU and motherboard but, by default it will downclock to 1333Mhz 1.5V. You will probably have to set the correct voltage and timings in BIOS to get the RAM stable but your motherboard will be OK with the higher voltage. Also, as your RAM is not on the QVL you might have to play around with the settings to get it running OK

When you do increase the voltage you will get an overvolt warning, this is normal and not something to worry about as your RAM is rated for it and the warning applies as BIOS expects the RAM voltage to be the default 1.5V (My RAM is rated at 1.65V and I get this warning)

If you only have 1 or 2 sticks of RAM I would suggest that you use memory slots DDR3_3 & DDR3_4 if you want to go above 1333 Mhz. This is not essential but Gigabyte recommends using these slots for faster RAM and it might help with any problems you might encounter.

I started with 1600mhz Hyper X ram on this board and suffered some instability
one of the problems did turn out to be audio driver related, but my system seems much happier with the Corsair Ram I bought to replace it.

I have got 2GB Module OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 I have set it to 1600Mhz on a default voltage which is 1.5 and so far I haven't had any problem. 
but do you think I should put it back to 1333Mhz.   I have AMD Phenom 955 overclocked at 3.6 on a default voltage, operating system Window 7 32bits.  Graphic card GTX285.

Hi,
if it's working fine you should be OK. The real problems occur when you are filling all 4 slots on the motherboard as the Memory Controller on the CPU can then start to struggle.

With just two sticks of RAM you should be fine.

I have tried to install the ram above mentioned.

I increased the volt for ram in Bios to 1750 V and installed the Ram.

After a couple of days the system became unstable and began to shake vhen I played games. vhen I reinstalled to normal ram and volt in BIOS everything was okay.
Probably because I used all 4 ram slots. (according to other subjets about 4 slots).

My knowledge about overclocking is in the state of beginning so i did not dare to go further on.
