How long will the LGA1366 last?
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:20:41 pm »
How long until the socket is replaced with a new one? Approximation is what I need, an exact answer isnt necessary

Well we are not 100% sure but next year Intel is changing the socket 1156 to 1155(not compatible) and I think that there is a change on the cards for the socket 1366 too. :-\ It is the way of our industry.
Sandybridge is not compatible with any of the existing sockets and is going to be more a one completely autonymous chip. The controllers will all be on it.

I wonder if there are any more 386 users in here...
The oldest machine I've met is a Pentium 3 866mhz...
And I bet LGA1366 will last at least 4 years from it was introduced...
My rig:
AMD 965 BE(stock)+Coolmaster HP-212P
Geil DDR3-1600
Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5
WD Caviar Blue 640GB SATA2
WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA3
WD RE3 500GB SATA2
ASUS HD 4770
Coolermaster GX 750W PSU
Gigabyte Trition case(old case)

It will be gone (from production) next year when they move to the 1155 socket.

Wonder if they will change the mounting holes yet again for the coolers.  ::)

I really don't know, I haven't heard anything either way. I would think though that it makes sense to keep the same mountings as for the 1156 chip.
