Updated BIOS, now I get nothing on the monitor!! HELP
« on: August 07, 2010, 02:49:49 am »
I have the GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD7. I was setting up RAID 0 with 4 SSDs. The array was fine but when I went to install Vista ultimate 64 bit it would tell me "Windows requires a valid system volume blah blah" So I did some reading and updated the BIOS and now I can't see anything on the screen!

It sounds as if something went wrong with the BIOS update. The only thing you can do now is to unplug the computer and let it drain the power from the PSU. Leave it for half an hour or so. The follow normal clear CMOS proceedure not forgetting to remove the on board battery for a few minutes. Then replace the battery and try and boot up. If you still have problems then it soulds like the update has failed.

Thank you, so if the update failed then I'm pretty much screwed right?

Pretty much yes.
If you follow the steps that Dark Mantis suggests you might be able to recover but, if after clearing CMOS things stay the same then it is worth considering it RMA time.

Sorry  :'(

As a matter of interest what utility did you use to try and update the BIOS?

I just used Q Flash using a USB drive that had the BIOS on it.

Hi,

So is your system OK now?

I think you misunderstood his answer absic, he was just replying to my question regarding what utility he used for the failed update.  Sadly the BIOS is still corrupt.

Yes, I realised that as I was drinking my 3rd cup of very strong coffee!! I should really make sure that I am awake before logging on and posting. :-[

Hi kskwerl

Which BIOS version you had originally?
You were upgrading to F4 bios, right?
Did you set “Keep DMI data” to “Disabled” in the options of Q-Flash before doing BIOS update?
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)
