UD3R rev2.0 new build keeps rebooting Help!

Hi.

So just finished the new build:

UD3R rev2.0
i7 930
6GB Gskill 2000mhz Ripjaws
2x evga GTX 460
Seasonic X-750 PSU
1TB Samsung F3
60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
Samsung Blu-ray combo drive

So ive been reading all the other threads about similiar issues.... with mine everything powers on all fans running correctly and leds on the mobo light up.. after a few seconds i get one beep, then the gigabyte logo screen appears for maybe 2-3 sec then it starts rebooting and gets to the same point every time, (doesnt let me get into the bios) i noticed the keyboard doesnt light up anyway.

I've tried with no hdds or the blu ray drive, tried with no gfx card/combination of the 2, tried each ram stick individually in every ram slot (in the reccomended slots i get the usual prob, in the non recommended slots i get no screen and lots of beeps which seems normal) also tried clearing the cmos just with the button at the back with no luck.

with the 8pin cpu power disconnected or with no ram installed the system stays on the whole time but no signal to the screen.

getting really annoyed hopefully wont have to send the mobo away.... i guess next would be to try some different ddr 3 ram if i can get ahold of some and to take the hsf off and check for bent pins/cpu seated properly...?? as far as i can see nothing is shorting with the case. Helpppp

just took the hsf off, no bent pins cpu looks fine, i applied the paste only to the cpu so the bottom of the hsf wasnt completely covered with a light layer of the thermal paste, some areas had none.... maybe i didnt tighten the hsf down tightly enough? but still i dont know if that would be the cause of the problem... ?

Hi and welcome to the forum. The problem you are experiencing could well be caused by an overheating CPU. You don't say what cooler you are using but if the CPU isn't covered properly with a thin film of paste it could be your problem.

Sorry the cpu cooler is the Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283W. The cpu itself had the light layer completely covered i was just talking about the bottom of the heatsink.

I should have some different memory in a couple of days to test with, hopefully thats all it is. although i doubt all 3 sticks are faulty? ive heard other people using gskill ripjaws with no problems hmmm maybe the motherboard is faulty after all.

Try downloading and running Memtest86+ and checking one memory module at a time. Let the test do several loops not just one. If no faults are found then swap the module for the next one and repeat.

Hi.... I'm also having the same problem......... just completed a build with the mobo in question with I5 760 with the stock cooler and the system just goes into cycle of reboots. I disconnected all power except the mobo main power and the power button connector...... still the same problem....... is it a mobo manufacturing problem coz i'm seeing similar queries in other forums too........... would appreciate any help........

forgot to mention .........its revision 2.0 mobo........ and i have 4gb ram patriot dual channel.........

You would be bnetter off starting your own thread really otherwise it can become confused. Have you tried checking the heatsink on the stock cooler is connected on all four corners firmly?
Is your memory on the QVL of Gigabyte and the memory maker?

the heatsink is ok........ the memory is ddr3 patriot 2 X 2gb............ even without the heatsink the boot cycle is going on and off with just the ram attached............

We would need the exact model number of the memory kit to be able to check on the websites.

I removed the ram but the still the boot cycle continues............

Thanks for the model number. I have just checked the QVLs of both Patriot and Gigabyte and this kit is not on either one. That doesn't necessarilly mean that it can't be made to work but it does show that it would need a lot of tweaking of the settings. I notice from the Patriot specs that it has XMP. Are you using it to set the memory up? Have you made sure that you have them in the right slots for dual channel mode?

Dear Dark Mantis......... i was such an idiot............. i did the novice mistake of not connecting the CPU power connector........... guess i was out of the game for sometime in building a new rig.......... the mobo is booting now.........pardon me and thanks for all the input..........

Now since i have bought these ram i quite didnt understand the qvl spec.......... just enlighten me in plain layman terms for me to understand......... thanks again for all the help!!!!!!!!

Hey! No problem. It doesn't matter how long we have been doing these things we still make the stupidest of mistakes and somehow the more experience you have the sillier the mistake makes you feel
Main thing is you found it and got the machine going. Well done

The QVL stands for Qualified Vendors List and is just a smart way of saying "tried and tested".  It just means that it is guarranteed to work with a certain motherboard.

Anyway enjoy your computer and I am glad to have helped in  my little way.

tried some generic 2gb ddr 3 1333 and still the same problem. guess ill just have to send the board away. it cant be anything shorting with the case/board because when i take all the ram out/the 8pin cpu pwr connector the system stays on but with nothing displayed on the screen...

my question is do i have to go through the place i bought the board from to rma it? or can i send it direct to gigabyte?
