GA-EP43-UD3L boot problem
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:30:20 pm »
I have the Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L motherboard and having problems with booting up.

When I turn it on all the phase LED light up and kinda pulse, not all the way off just kinda dim at about every second or so.  I do NOT get any beeps, the fans all run but I don't think my hard drives are spinning.  The eject button on my DVD will not work nor it there a light working on my DVD drive.

I pulled one of my mem sticks out and switched them around but still nothing.

I'm thinking it's the power supply, any other thought out there?

Thanks,

Craig

Hi,

Without a few more details with regard to your set-up it's a bit difficult to offer any firm advice but, from what you are describing there does seem to be a power issue.

I know it sounds a silly question but you have plugged all of the power leads in correctly, especially the 8 PIN ATX on the motherboard near the CPU. (Had this happen to me before. I thought I had plugged it in properly but it wasn't home firmly enough and had popped out!).

ps you've posted this in the wrong section but I have sent a PM to the Forum Moderator asking him to put it where it belongs. It should be in the Motherboards with Intel Processor section.

Thanks for the answer, and sorry I put it in the wrong sub forum, just signed up today.

This mother board has been running for over a year just fine, it just did this Friday morning.

What other info can I give you?

Again thanks for the feedback,

Craig

Hi,

No worries about posting just thought I'd tell you in case you log on later and can't find this thread because it had been moved.  ;)

To be honest the more info about your PC that you can give the better such as:
CPU, PSU, Graphics Card, Memory (make and other stats) Motherboard Revision Number, HDD's etc., it's just so we can get an idea of what kind of rig you're running as sometimes these kind of issues can spring up from anywhere, especially as you say the PC has been running fine for over a year.

Alright I checked my powersupply with a meter and all seems fine.  I have unpluged all usb's and still nothing.  One strange thing is the DVD has no lights on it with the control cable hooked up, but when I unplug it the power light pulses with the rest of the light.

I reset the processer....................still nothing, not a beep not a KMA nothing.........so is my mb shot?  Would I get beeps with a bad processer?

really don't have the money to just start throwing part at it at this point in life.

Help,

Craig

My advice would be to take the motherboard out of the case and build up on the desktop. Make sure that you are careful about static electricity. Just assemble the motherboard, cpu, heatsink, fan buzzer and power supply ,nothing else. Now try and POST. You should get a series of beeps which means missing devices. If not one of the previous items is technically putting it, duff. If it beeps then turn off and add the memory and continue until you find the problem. Good luck. ;)

Thanks DM,

I did that last night after my post, as I have another mb and power supply and was going to replace the ps.  It was the wrong ps so I tried to boot with the mb out of the case with only the processer and mem, still nothing.

I didn't check the amp draw and I'm very confused about why my DVD player power light will pulse with the power light and leds when the ribbon cable is removed.  Any idea on this issue?  If it flashed I could understand it as it's not getting any signial but it flashes the same pattern as the main power light and LEDs.

I really don't have the money to buy both a mb and processer, and as you can tell, know enough about computers to get me in trouble.   ::)

Could it just still be the ps as I didn't check amp draw?
Could it be the processer and how can I check this?
Could it be the mb and is there anything to check this?
Thank for all your help so far it's be a God send,

Craig

Right Craig, first off we need to check the PSU. So I would suggest watching this little video on the subject and then you can follow it. Quicker than me trying to explain it to you.

The ps is working because my case fan and processor fans both are working.  I'm at work right now and not next to my computer so I didn't do what the video said.  Will I have a different result with just a case fan and paper clip?

Like I said, I checked all the voltages with a metter and am getting 12v, 5.9v and 3v off the supply and the voltage does seem steady.

Can it still be my ps?

Possibly Craig. The 5.9v seems a little high which could mean that there is not a current draw through it. I would say though that the chances are that the PSU is ok. By the way what size and make/model is it, oh and how old?

Sorry, I think I put this system together about 2-3 years ago and it's the original ps, as I said I'm at work right now but I think the ps is 650 but don't remember the brand, I'll try to call home and get the wife to get the brand.  She tends to sleep in and it's 8am here so I'll have to wait a tad.  Don't want to make the rest of the week a living hell at my house.   ;D
