Installation Questions on GA-890FXA-UD5

Hi Absic 115,
It has been way over a month since we spoke on forum and I have completely gone blank on this. I am going to be using 2-XFX HD5700 video cards in Xfire. According to my uploaded photo have I picked the correct slots? I hate to be a PIA but I really don't want to bork this install.

Also going to be using this memory:
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK
Because it is 1333, I believe you told me to use The 'WHITE' slots.

Thanks for looking,
John

Well my two cents is those are  the right pci-e slots and if it was me id use the 2 slots of the same color start with the closest one to processor and then the 3rd one out. That is what the manual says for that board. Now i use this board and i used slots 1 and 2 when i had 4 gigs and all 4 slots now that i use 8 gig but according to the manual for dual channel you use slots 1 and 3.  Unless you populate all 4 slots.

Hi there John and never a PIA. Now, if you want one of those, you really ought to meet Dark Mantis!!!  :D

Yep you are correct with the Graphic cards and as autotech says for the RAM, you would be better using the slot closest to the processor and the third one out on this board that's the two BLUE slots. (My mistake)

HI,
absic115 and DM,
Just came back to let you know the UD5 booted right out of the box, not one problem,. Vista Ultimate installed on new drive (I won't give it up) ;D The only thing is I have a day and a night of endless updates, and programs to install. One thing puzzles me though, I got back on the internet and was able to log into every forum I visit except yours. ??? Some kind of cookie setting error. I am on my other machine now and no problem logging on at all. What do you think it could be?
Thanks,
Jakeman97

Not sure about the cookie problem though deleting them might help. absic and dm have a long time relationship even when they fight they arent if you know what i mean. What one misses be sure the other catches.

My point for posting back was i used vista 64 home premium since the first beta came out or release canadaite as some say and i loved it but i got a special edition of winwdows 7 ulitimate about a month before it was released to the public even signed by steve himself. Boot times compared to vista are night and day and not to many updates to do yet also when u shut it off it goes off alot faster. If you migrated to windows 7 64 and at least home premium you wouldnt regret it.

Not quite sure why you are having problems with this particular site but as autotech suggests it is a good idea to clean out all the cookies sometimes as they tend to build up and up and up and up, anyway you get my drift.

Glad everything else is working though. ;)

Hi autotech,
I kinda surmised that was the situation with the dynamic duo lol. Gigabyte ought to pay these guys for what they do...in gold bars no less. As far as MS and I go why were old friends, I started with DOS 6.0 and then Win 3.1and up from there till now. Never did buy ME2000 though as I loved Win 98SE. Up until this build I would always buy an OEM copy of Vista Home Premium X64; and when I sold or traded the board I would 'give' the buyer that copy as it was tied to that board anyway. Sometime ago I managed to lay my hands on two Full Retail copies of Vista Ultimate; but never used them until now. Even though I have to do the endless update thing I think Vista is as stable as XP Pro ever was. I do have a copy of Win 7 Update and I know I can use it on a clean install but I'm just to old and lazy to learn a new OS. I'll figure the cookie thing out; but what I thought was odd this was the only forum site that did that. I do appreciate your input though it is food for thought.

Hi DM,
I dont't know because this was a fresh clean install on a brand new board and drive  ??? I'll get to the bottom of it. I/ve given this site all the 'permissions' I can and still couldn't get logged. I am on my old machine (all up to date) now with the same OS, same internet settings etc. Oh wait, I have to check my version of IE.....this is 2007 software I'm using LOL. I'll do that later and post back

Well pleased it was that simple. I don't use IE these days so I don't usually have these problems. I tend to use Google Chrome or Firefox as I hate using Microc**p stuff if I can avoid it.

Like you, I also got hold of Vista in the early days of its release but now I use Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate. I think it is much nicer than Vista and it is also very stable. No doubt it will be ruined in its next reincarnation but I'll cross that bridge when it comes along!  :-\

I wouldn't go back to Vista in any of it's incarnations. Win7 64 bit is just so much better in all sorts of ways. Glad you got the cookies sorted out.
