GV-N460OC-IG1, Drivers block windows startup
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:53:09 am »
hello,
I recently purchase a new build the only problem is that the nvidia drivers for the gpu make my Windows hang on the welcome screen.
I'm almost sure it's due to the drivers if it's a software problem but with my old 8800GTX it works great...
So here's my build :

Mobo : GA-X58A-UD3R
Proc : Intel i7 930
RAM : OCZ tripple channel 3*2 go 8-8-8@1.25v
psu : Noname ( HKC ) 630 watts, I'm gonna purchase a better one since there is only one 12v PCI-E connector.
Hard drives : 2* WDC 1TB caviar.

Thanks.

PS : Sorry for my low english skill I'm French.

Hello and welcome to the forum. There is nothing wrong with your English skills I might add. ;)
An upgrade to your PSU might be all that is needed becuase soem of these cheaper PSUs can cause all sorts opf problems. Can you post the exact model number of the memory please?

I've just purchase a corsair 850Wtx psu online.

My memory is a tripple channel pack : OCZ3G1600LV6Gk, they're on the compatibility page but with 6PCS I only have 3.
Actually it works great with my old gpu Windows shows 6Go I still don't have any crash on my system and I've passed the Windows memtest with success.

Also, since the GTX460 needs 2 PCI-E 12V supply when I connect it I'm using the doubling cable tension seems to be ok ( 11.8v~)

Thanks you.

Hello everyone :)

I have exactly the same problem, so that's the reason I registered here. My computer configuration is as follows:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-760
MBO: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3
RAM: 2 x Kingston 2GB HyperX DDR3 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST31000528AS 1TB
VGA: Gigabyte GTX-460 768 MB
PSU: Gigabyte Superb Power 720 Watts
Display: Samsung P2050
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

For the first three days everything worked without any problems and then suddenly the system froze while playing Crysis. After restart, the system froze again at the Windows 7 "welcome" screen. I tried everything, but the issue remained. I tested each component separately, until I found out that the graphics card is the problem, or to be more precise its drivers ???

When I erase all graphics drivers using Windows Safe Mode, the system boots up normally. If I try to install any drivers (I tried 5 different versions), the issue reappears. I tried with the drivers I got bundled with the card, but no luck. After researching a bit, I found out that there are many users with the same issue (other card producers as well), but that there is no quality solution to this problem :-\

Just to clear things up, it's not a PSU/memory/processor issue, but graphics card/drivers problem. Many users have returned their cards because of this. :-[

Any ideas? :-\

Yes, return your card ;) No without being flippant it is a problem as you quite rightly say that has been going on for some time now. This is one reason I always steer people towards the Radeons. I really don't know the answer I am afraid, I suppose it is to wait for the next driver and hope it is better written. :-\

Some new drivers came out only a couple of days ago. They are Beta ones at the moment but try using them. From memory they are 260.xx

Yes I would have to agre with you there. There does seem to be an enormous amount of problems with this card. Whether it is the 460 chip or the drivers or the card build itself I am not sure but there is a problem.

Hello I was so happy that my build works that I totally forget to repost,

I've changed my PSU to a Antec True Power 650W ( no more corsair 850, sellers told me that the antec was ok ).
It works perfectly with the 258.96 drivers, the Voltage ~ ( sorry I don't know how to say it >< ) is ok 12.1v constant.
If you want more information tell me!

I still don't understand why my 630Watts couldn't run the computer but it seems that the amperage/voltage was too low.
So purchase a native P8 + 24pin PSU with SLI support even if you only have one GPU.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,I am also a Gigabyte user from Far east.It is hard to find a graphic card forum locally, but luckily I find here and come across half earth.I have the same problem, and just want to confirm whether the description in Win7 is "livekernelevent","BCcode 117",if so,I am on the same boat.I am hesitating right now, what to do next?return the card  or wait for the updating driver.I am so frustrated that I couldn't even browse web page in Win7 normally, cause the graphic card driver makes my PC halted too often and randomly.

Good news. I am happy that it has all worked out for you and the PSU problem was probably down to startup voltages and maybe split 12v lines.
