Sorry to get your hopes up but the saga continues. Fresh install of win 7 64/vista 32 before installing the new driver. I can now boot into the desktop without freezing but it's only a matter of time until I get the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding" error. It recovers but continues to stop until the computer reboots. I have attached the debug log.

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X58 - Bios v603
CPU: Intel i7 970 (stock speed)
Memory: 2 x 2Gb Corsair Dominator (CMP4GX3M2A1600C8)
Video: Gigabyte GTX 460 (GV-N460OC-1GI) - Bios F3
OS: Win 7 64 bit/vista 32 bit (fresh install)

Same story here... but mine doesn´t show the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding" error, it just reboots. And right now i think I´m going to have a liitle inconvenient with RMA, in GGTS they tell me that the retailer must do it but the retailer says their responsability for that (or their return policy) is for just 45 days, after that the manufacturer has to take the RMA....

I really don't know how things work in Columbia but in most countries the retailer will give a years warranty and then any other reverts to the manufacturer. As I say it may be different where you are. :-\

Hi,

Completed another test using a DX58SO and the same lockup occurred. I am debating on whether to RMA or to sell it and pick up a 6870.

Personally I prefer the AMD/ATI graphics cards at the moment. They may not be quite as fast as some of the nVidia cards but they are more reliable and certainly quieter and less hot. I have just put in a 6970 and it is performing beautifully and being water cooled it is silent too!

Yeah heat has always been an issue with nvidia over the last couple of generations but the gtx 460 produced little to no heat with gigabytes HSF. What is rather sad is the fact that Nvidia has no official response to the lockup issue, which dates back to August for some poor folks. Nvidia dropped the ball with the 8800 gt overheating, teamed up with HP on some overheating laptops and now this. Furthermore, the lockup issue is not isolated to just the gtx 460, 470, or 480, since some people with 500 series cards are having problems.

I still enjoy Nvidia cards but their customer support in regards to this issue has been an abysmal failure.

Could not get it to work so I ended up selling it and switched to AMD. Great work Nvidia!

Personally that is one reason I prefer the AMD cards. They have been quieter and cooler for some time now and there is very little to choose between them as far as power goes.

Hey Chaps,  :)

I am one who is also trying to make a GV-N460OC-IG1 work with Windows 7. 4 days spent with no result. Though i will try this tonight http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=586183&mpage=1, may I know if the GPU will work with Windows XP?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

As long as you are using the appropriate driver it should work with XP or any other OS. ;)

I had the same issue across a number of operating systems. Only way to fix it was to use a different motherboard or video card. I would still suggest you try to use xp or any other Os because what failed for one may work for you!
