Well it could just be a reporting error due to the cards firmware/drivers but even assuming it is correct it maybe a fault on the card itself.

bios update didn't fix anything it still won't boot sometimes, getting stucked on the boot, but once it's in windows it's stable, i did fresh reinstall of w7 pro x64 bit and it still reports as x8 but now it stuck in 1.1, this is just great ::)

i did reinstall the drivers after bios update

you mean different mobo, i already did that and even tried dedicated to video card only psu with 30a on single rail

after couple of reboots it got to pcie x8 2.0 but it just doesn't work at x16, i know there is not much of a difference but i can see that the card doesn't perform very well in games overall and in no way it's my mobo or cpu that holding it back :-\

guess i have to rma and be at peace with myself

i tried in all of them obviously, all 3 of them support x16 and only operate @x8 when two or more cards are used
it's not my first build, i've been building pc's for myself and friends for about 8 years, this very pc handled 2 8800gt 512 mb (which combined use twise more than single 460) from different brands in sli for about 2 weeks, just before i got this card and it performed very well, i just thought i'll get something new and refreshing, well it aint went through as i thought it would

Well I also do quite a lot on the ASUS Forums so I am well aquainted with that site and checked up on your motherboard's manual. It states that for PCIE x16 you must use the BLUE slot the BLACK slot is x16 but only at 4 link. It does say to run the GPU in the blue slot if you only have a single card.

yeah i know that the blue one is a main slot, which i use for a single card solutuon and all other cards that i tested so far operate @x16 2.0 except for a 460, starting to sound like a broken record now :P

Yes I know what you mean, but we have to make sure that we are precise in our questions and answers. Well I cant think of any other tests or advice I can give you apart from RMA the sucker.  ;)

Actually there are a terrific number of people having problems with the nVidea cards at the moment. Mainly down to bad drivers I think or at least I hope so. :-\
