booted another pc up using the power supply from my pc.psu seems ok.

How can the PSU be faulty if it booted another PC.

And yes the PSU is faulty NOW because running PSU unloaded is a big stress and thats why it popped.

regarding the psu, would i be be better off sending this to corsair in holland or back to ebuyer. the psu is about 7 months old?

The PSU wasn't run unstressed Peter. He had a load on it(case fan)

I would return it to Ebuyer they are normally very good and I would suspect quicker that shipping it to Holland. After all your contract is with them as retailer for the first twelve months, then it reverts to Corsair for the remainder of the waqrranty period (4 more years I think)

Still not enough even though the PSU has an internal load which is either fixed or on an automatic circuit that removes the load when the load gets higher so that the PSU powers on, with just a case fan the minimum load would still be minimum and likely popped the internal load for the PSU.

Well he followed Corsair's instructions to the letter as that is how they advise to test their product so I don't think they will be complaining about that. You can see the video for your self at:

Sure it was done as shown but here's the thing:
It did not pop when the PSU was tested in another PC.
It did not pop when the OP was testing it in their system when it was plugged in with the card, ram or HDD's connected or taken out.

IT popped when doing the paper clip test with a case fan... YES?

Not all PSU are made well and all the same and this paper clip test with a case fan should of worked and the internal load was likely not fitted on a heatsink properly which popped the load.

No one is argueing over the possible outcomes of this test or whether in theory it is sound, only that he followed their test procedure and so there shouldn't be any problem with RMAing it. When he gets a new one then he knows that it is ok.

Hi recieved new psu today and i still have exactly the same problem. I also tried this with the new psu,  which i got off gigabyte technical support
 1) Remove the M/B from the case.
2) Only install the basic components on the motherboard – CPU, CPU cooling fan, one memory module, VGA card (if there is no VGA onboard) and power supply.
3) Reset the CMOS once - Disconnect the power cord from the power supply & detach the CMOS battery for 5 minutes then put it back.
4) Connect the internal speaker.
5) Turn on the power to see your system can power up. (Connect only the power switch from the case to the M/B)
Looks like I will have to RMA the motherboard back to ebuyer. Cant fault ebuyer with their rma on psu, picked up tuesday, and delivered today and no hassle whatsoever

Did you check the VGA card in another computer? Its likely the motherboard thats the problem but wouldn’t hurt to test it.

Bollox, ebuyer mailed to say nothing wrong with m/board.Haven't checked the graphics card in another pc yet

Well at least look on the bright side that is another piece of kit that you now know is working. So you have PSU, motherboard. That's a good start. When you get it back post here and we will test it outside the case.

Cant fault ebuyer, motherboard back today. Okay i checked the graphics card in my bro's pc and it is fine.

OK. Check tthe CPU socket first for bent pins. Assuming they are all alright install the CPU/heatsink/fan including thermal paste, the buzzer, memory and PSU and then try and POST and note what beeps it emits.
