Hi found these pictures online and on the Gigabyte board I can make out the rectangle and on the msi board you can definately see it I don't know if they are raised but looks like rectangles to me.[/img]

Strange, but maybe the socket design has been changed slightly and I haven't caught up with it!

But there are a lot of images on the web that do not show this rectangle on the AM3 socket and even the Gigabyte image for your mobo doesn't seem to have it.

Hi absic115 the top picture i posted is one of my mobo and I can see a rectangle, it looks as if things are not going for me, any word from runn3R, I think I will give AMD a call on Monday and pour my heart out to them and see if they will take pity on me. ha ha

Hi Cookiebun,

I sent the PM to runn3R quite late yesterday so I don't think he will see it until Monday.
I guess it could be a modified design to the CPU Socket though why this should be the case I don't know and I personally haven't come across it before hence my initial reaction.

Not sure how AMD will respond but I have always found them to be pretty helpful. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.  ;)

I can't see any reason for it if they have made a change because they would have to make a matching recess in the chip. :-\

Not necessarily DM.
Looking at the way the ridges appear in the picture it might be that they fit between the pins of the CPU as there would be enough of a gap and they may have made this change, if it is a change, to ensure better alignment.

Yes you could be right there absic. After another closer inspection of the photo it could just be a raised ridge. I previously thought that the whole centre block was raised.

Hi DM yes it is just a ridge the centre block isn't raised, and looking at my processor i see another pin slightly bent.

It won't really matter will it as one of the pins has allready broken off, so the processor is no good.

Yes I was surprised myself, when I told him there was one pin broken off and one bent he just said only one pin to which I said yes and he said ok and then told me he would arrange an RMA.
