GTX 465 Can't Control Fan Speed

GTX 465 Can't Control Fan Speed
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:21:44 pm »
Hello guys, I just purchased a Gigabyte GTX 465 but I can't control the fan speed at all.  I've tried MSI afterburner, NVIDIA system tools, and some Galaxy software. This setting is way to loud for internet browsing, etc and I would love to turn down the fans for quieter idle usage.  If anyone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

I am not 100% certain but i think the fan is controlled via software that comes with the drivers on the disk. If not maybe it is an automatic configuration that controls the speed accoprding to the heat of the card. :-\

thanks for your reply.  I downloaded the nvidia drivers and when I put the fan speed on auto, it just remains on 40% no matter what.  It's actually really weird.

As I said I am no expert on these cards but from you description it sounds like the card is faulty. Maybe the temperature sensor is stuck. I am sure there must be other members on this forum who have the card and could help you. I just double checked in the manual and there is no mention of speed control at all.

My gtx480 runs at 44% fan speed when set to auto. Try manual configuration if you need to, but its always better to use the fan profile. You can try Rivatuner after updating to the latest drivers. If you still can't control the fan speed then I would suggest waiting for future drivers as the GTX 465 is quite new

MSI Afterburner worked for me to change the fan speed.
