HD 5750 low resolution textures after driver update
« on: September 21, 2010, 03:05:50 pm »
ello there, I have purchased a completely new PC about a week ago, with a Gigabyte HD 5750 installed. I have been completely satisfied with the performance so far, every game including crysis and oblivion ran on maximum specs without as much as a stutter. After updating my driver to 10.9 (unfortunately without uninstalling the old driver) however, textures in almost every game look blurred and low res. Character models and weapons are top-notch, but rock, wall, stone, etc textures are shamefully low resolution. I have tried uninstalling CCC 10.9, cleaning it with driver sweeper, then returning to the old driver, but with no avail. Other seem to have this problem too, but apparently even changing the vga, or a windows reinstall does not fix it. Is there any chance the driver messes up something in the vga BIOS? Any help appreciated, since i want to enjoy the performance of my comp, not searching for solutions on the web :S

Thank you very much in advance

PS: I also tried driver sweeper in safe mode, resetting mipmap settings in CCC, reinstalling old driver, then returning to new, but nothing seems to help. The VGA is not faulty, as before the driver update every texture was crystal clean, and the fps value in the games is still awesome. I have seen others with this problem on other forums, some of them even tried to reinstall windows, and change the VGA, but the problem persisted. That made me think it might be a BIOS issue.
Any advice appreciated

If the driver was to blame for a corruption/change to the BIOS it would be the GPU's own BIOS not the main computer one. So as you have said that some people have even changed the card and it hasn't helped then that is not the problem. I would have thought it was to do with some left over part of the previous driver conflicting with the new driver but if that was the case a format and re-install of the OS would cure that. Have you checked to make sure it is not just a settings problem?

Hi there,

I had exactly the same issues when I tried to update to the 10.9 drivers. I'm not sure why the 10.9 are causing an issue but I tried everything, except a clean install, to get it to run properly, without success. It also took me ages to get back to 10.8 and get everything running happily again. I even mentioned this to Dark Mantis as I was so surprised by the problems I was having.

What I had to do was run the CCC uninstall app then reboot the PC
When I rebooted Windows 7 automatically  loaded drivers so I manually uninstalled them and deleted them through Device Manager then rebooted.
Rebooted and Windows loaded the default drivers. I then went into C:/programs/ and deleted the ATI & ATI technology folders and once again rebooted.
I was then able to reinstall the 10.8 drivers. However, when I rebooted after installing them, there was a problem with my card not recognising all my monitors ( I have 3) but I rebooted again and everything has been fine since.

Hope this helps
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Tried uninstalling 10.9, deleting everything, sweeping, cleaning, reinstalling but the problem still seems to persist. I'll keep the topic updated with a few screens soon

yep, followed them from step to step, but didnt work. Will try to replace the card if i can't get it working soon. I doubt its faulty though, as up until the driver update everything went fine

Certainly a weird problem! I can understand the bad driver scenario but a clean and re-install of the previous driver should take care of that.

I don't know if linking to another forum is allowed, but if you want to keep up to date, here's my original post at ATI forums: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=139827&enterthread=y I will keep updating that, as posting the same info over and over again on two separate boards is quite boring :S
