GA-H57M-USB3 (Rev 1) - Memory compatibility
« on: September 24, 2010, 04:13:01 pm »
Can anyone tell me if the following memory is supported for this motherboard?

CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 - Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 240pin DIMM Memory Module Kit

It is not listed in the QVL on the Gigabyte website, but the Corsair website states memory and motherboard are compatible.

I am having the following problems. When installing the RAM chips in slots 1 and 3 (in order to benefit from the dual channel capability of the board) the system will not boot. I have now installed the RAM chips in slots 1 and 2, and the system now boots OK, but I am experiencing intermittent system restarts every few hours.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If Corsairs website says these modules are compatible with this motherboard then you shouldn't have anything to worry about on that score.
You did the right thing by installing the memory in slots 1 & 3 if you want Dual Channel mode but it has to be enabled in the BIOS the same as now you are running in single channel mode and that should be selected.

I would also recommend running Memtest86+ on the modules one at a time for several loops and see if you get any errors. If you do RMA the memory.

Thanks. Can you tell me which setting I need to change in the BIOS? Also, I am unable to get into the BIOS with memory installed in slots 1 and 3. So do I take out the chip from slot 3, go into the BIOS, change the setting, then shut down, reinsert the chip into slot 3, then restart?

You will need to check through the BIOS yourself for the Single/Dual Channel mode for the memory because each BIOS is slightly different. I did have a look through the manual but couldn't see it there . It's possible that it is auto sensed but it does have a reference to Enabling it in the manual.

You were correct in your assumption of how to do it though.
