ga-x58a-ud3r blank screen - no post
« on: October 31, 2010, 03:57:18 pm »
Hi, I just bought this motherboard.  I am not sure what is going on with this board.
specs are,

-Core i7-950 3.06GHz
-Gold XTC 6GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL8 Memory Kit (Three 2GB Memory Modules)
-GeForce GTX 460 Superclocked 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 x16 Video Card
-I have four SATA hard drives.
-power supply 600w

The case used to have another board (abit), so i am using the same case and hard drives with the same power supply, the only new things are the MB, Processor and graphics card.  I am not getting anything on the screen, i only see red, green and amber lights on two sections of the motherboard, the lights are near the upper and lower side of the memory modules.  At this point, I have remove hard drives, memory, even to having just the processor running and nothing.  this board does not post errors, which is bad, i am used to abit boards.
any advise will be very helpfull.  thank you so much.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Well first things first, have you got all the power leads connected to the motherboard? that's the 24 pin and the 8 pin(near CPU)?

If you connect a buzzer to the front panel connector block on the motherboard you will at least know what POST beeps it makes.

I would suggest if you are still not getting anywhere to remove the motherboard from the case. It is a possibility that there is a short. Lay the motherboard on some cardboard and then check the CPU socket for any bent pins. They are tiny and you may need a magnifying glass to see properly.

Post again when you have done all this.

my power supply can connect the 24 pin to the board but the other wired only has up to 6, do i have to have the 24 and the 8 connected, is it a must?? otherwise i probably need to buy another power supply.  thanks.

That is probably where your problem lies and to be fair I did think that you were asking a bit much of it anyway being only 600W. I would try and get a good quality single 12V rail of about 700W or more depending on your future upgrading plans.

Hi, this is to let you know that after buying a new power supply is now working fine.  Are there any bios configuration tips as to how to get the most out of this motherboard.  thank you.

That is good news and I hope that some others who don't always agree with us on the need for a decent size quality PSU are following this thread too. Did you also add a buzzer?

Usual best practice rules apply when setting up the BIOS eg disable anything that you don't use/need, first boot device HDD0, etc If you have any specific questions then please post on the forum and we will do our best to answer them.

A buzzer is just the modern version of the case speaker. It isn't strictly necessary but is a useful device to have installed for faultfind especially. They are extremely cheap (a few cents) and it is always useful to have around even if you don't install it permanently.

I am having the same issues posted here.

Mobo: X58A-UD3R/rev 2.0
Power supply: Corsair 850w
Processor: I7-950
Memory: 3x2gb DDR3 1333mhz

the difference is my Power supply has the 8 pin required. I have babied this machine while putting it togather I have reconfirmed multiple times that every thing is wired correctly. I looked at the pins for the processor on the board and 3 look like they might be the issue, (look at it one angle they all look good, look at it a different angle and 3 are slightly darker/brighter depending on how I move my head.)

{Resolved}

I resolved my own issue. the problem was memory placement. i had my memory in slot 2, 4, 6 instead of 1, 3, 5

I figured left most was 1 it is not its 2 1 is to the right of it. it looks like this (again this is to help others that run into the same thing i did not the forum techs)

2, 1, 4, 3, 6, 5.

Ya, not sure why they made slots 1, 3, 5 physical slots 2, 4, 6?
