Very Strange Memory Slot Problem On X58-UD5 ?
« on: October 05, 2010, 01:04:18 pm »
Hello guys,

I'm here with a problem and would like to know if someone already had something similar or who has heard of this, my gigabyte board X58-UD5 apparently has 1 memory slot (White Slot) that is not working.
I use triple channel 3x1GB but the funniest thing is that in the My Computer properties says "3GB (2GB Being Used)" , and CPU-Z also detects the 3GB and in triple channel, however when I turn the PC says that detects only 2GB of memory, I tried switching bios (F12 to F9) but no resulte,

Can someone can tell me anything about this?
Because i didnt want to send this to RMA and not having a PC for a while appreciate all the answers.

Regards.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte forum.

This is something that has come up before and you might want to search the forum for more information. It can be caused by several different things.
One that has occured recently is bent pins on the CPU socket. The pins are very delicate and if not enough care is taken when installing the CPU they can be bent. It isn't easy to distinguish the bent pinms from the straight ones so if you have trouble take a couple of close up(macro) photos and post them here for us to check.

Another thing is faulty memory. Try downloading and running Memtest86+ on each module at a time for roughly ten times. It takes a while but if you want to be sure then that is what it takes.

Memtest86+    http://www.memtest.org/

Check that out first and if you still have problems post again.

Are you setting your own QPI/Vtt, Uncore and memory multi, and ram voltages?

If not try doing that first, then if no luck you will need to show us your CPU socket.   Incorrect settings can easily cause this though, so if you are not setting them yourself please do, then if those fail please tell us what you are trying for the above mentioned settings.
