Install VGA driver from ASUS for GigaByte's VGA Card ?

Install VGA driver from ASUS for GigaByte's VGA Card ?
« on: October 05, 2010, 10:29:34 pm »
My friend said: All VGA driver have only one and it is from AMD or Nvida, GigaByte or ASUS isn't write any driver that they only write some Utilities for VGA card. The driver from GigaByte and the driver from ASUS are not different, they are only one.

And now, he is doing that with GiGabyte 9600GT 512MB DDR3 OC 700
and the driver download from here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

I don't believe it because I think it is not good.

Do you think he will be successful ?

Well all the drivers for the ATI or nVidia cards are basically the same for each make but they are all tweaked for the various manufacturers designs.
I see no reason why he couldn't do it in theory if he understands the writing of the drivers but it is more complicated than it sounds to make them good and work well.

I knew and I told him so.
Although companies generally use a device from a different company, it does not mean they must be identical.
I think he can be installed this, because they have in common is the use GPU from NVIDIA and their simple design, there is no big difference.
But this will actually dangerous to do this with the card design is actually as complex as the 200 or 400 for example.

Do you think so ?

But what happens if he is successful when he did this with GeForce 400 Serial or Radeon HD 5800 series and he had not find anything that is different between them ?

p/s: My English is not good, if I write something wrong then everyone forgive me. Thanks.

I would say that what he is doing is dangerous if nothing else and he could end up frying his card. These cards are built on what is termed a reference design, which means that the basic card design is laid out but then each individual manufacture changes bits to suit themselves. Otherwise it wouldn't make any difference what make you bought. I think a lot of it will come down to how good a programmer he is and how much he understands about graphic card design.

I know, I know but... he didn't think so.
He told they only have different by hardware and Utilities that they don't have different by driver.
I think he says that because he didn't know or see someone wrote driver and he only saw something who put it on VGA card.

But with my knowledge, i can't prove that he wrong.

What can I do for him ???

The basic drivers are usable on any card in the series so he will probably be alright I but I guess he is planning to modify them to get extra speed or something otherwise there would be no point. That is where he is likely to come unstuck. ::)

Did you think he wrote new driver for them ?
I don't think so because he can't write it. He didn't write and change anything, he only put GigaByte's VGA card on mainboard and installs driver from ASUS.
If he write new driver then I didn't ask everyone.

What I can ask is, He can use maximum power and safety with what has been done.
If he succeeds then that means the drivers ASUS and GigaByte are not any different.

Maybe I am missing the point here but why is he doing this if he is not modifying the drivers. He can download either driver from the internet. I thought he wanted to use some special features or overclocks. ???

I don't know what he did but I know He never write any driver because he can't have driver's source code. Do you think so ?
He did it because he wanted to prove him right.

And they are what he show.
Test with driver from ASUS.

He tested it with game.

Driver from NVIDA.

I said: why didn't you show temperature after it run maximum power ? If there are only GPU then very easy because that is only driver GPU, it's not different. ASUS and GigaByte are different on cooling systems and they must write driver for them.

And now, I waiting the his answer.

What do you think ?

Well as I said before I am not surprised that the drivers worked but as you say whether everything on the card will work fine is another point.

I know.

There are new picture. But they only show the difference between 2 driver version 8.17.11.9745 and version 8.17.12.5896.
I couldn't know they used driver from ASUS or GigaByte because i never install the driver from this company to the card of another company.

I watch out he wanted to climb and sit on my head than to argue with me because in the arguing he decried and scolded me very bad but he didn't show any important things, what i wanted to see.

I should just let him play. It's his gear and if he wants to take chances with it then why not. It will probably be fine.

I'm only sad because everything i want to help him became nothing.

Thank you very much.
