PSU related USB problems on certain Gigabyte boards?

PSU related USB problems on certain Gigabyte boards?
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:11:31 pm »
Hi -

I'm using an MA78G-DS3H mobo, it appears that the usb ports will work with some devices but not with others. I've tried doping the various reinstall driver/OS options but nothing seems to fix it.

I'm using an Enermax Liberty PSU - i notice that on the german gigabyte boards they have discussed the fact that some mobos seem to have problems with higher spec PSUs - anyone else seen a similiar problem or know how to fix it?

The link i found was:

I haven't met with such issue.
Have you tried with different PSU?
What is wattage of your current PSU?
Does it happen on rear USB ports or front ones?
What is USB device which is problematic?
Please provide more info: BIOS, O/S, hardware configuration

The PSU i'm using is an Enermax 400W - i've checked the voltages whilst the PSU is under load, and everything is well within tolerance - I've tried a 600W noname PSU to the same effect.

It takes place on all USB ports both front and rear - the USB devices that are problematic include a couple of small MP3 players, my Nokia phone, and a couple of external storage drives - there appears to be no rhythm or reason to what works and what doesn't - my ipod works fine.

BIOS: F7d - the latest for my board, i've tried older BIOSes also, and resetting the bios to defaults.
OS: WinXP
Hardware: AM2 processor, WD Harddisk and PCI Intel-NIC
