Not able to see drives

Not able to see drives
« on: October 09, 2010, 10:43:52 pm »
I've just ubdated my GA-890FX to BIOS version F4, and I had a RAID 5 array setup before, and now after updating my BIOS doesn't see all my drives. I think this is just because all the settings were reset to default with the update, but for the life of me I can't get them all to recognize, and recreate my RAID 5 array. Does anyone know the settings because the settings in the manual do not recognize my drives. They're all connected to the same SATA 3 controller, but are SATA 2 Samsung 1TB drives.

The default settings for the hard drive controller is IDE not RAID. There is also a setting for RAID 5 that also needs to be enabled. If you went to boot into windows without resetting the RAID settings then you will probably need to rebuild the array. Have you opened the RAID configuration utility to check the check the status of the array?

You shouldnt have to rebuild an array after just a bios update but you do have to reconfigure the bios.  If he rebuilds the array he will lose all info on it.

On the 3rd one down u can set at as sata type also ive been playing with mine and it works either way. The manual is right for me so not sure what you have going on. If i can be any more help just holler or  absic ( basic...lol )  or DK might drop in to help.

Well after another couple attempts here's whats happening:
I set everything up as you mentioned, and if I set the third option to As SATA Type none of my drives are recognized in BIOS, but the RAID controller sees one of them, and remembers how I had my array setup, but the status is off line. In the RAID setup it says "failed or disconnected..." for the other two drives  :'(
When I set that option to IDE I only get one hard drive recognized in BIOS, the RAID controller doesn't recognize any of them, and forgets everything about anything that was there before "no array defined".  ???

I had this issue before, and by some miracle was able to get it to work, but I'm starting to think that its not me if you all can see things right away with those settings

The sata 4 and 5 ports are sata 3 ports. As you didnt say you unplugged them then my best guess is to flash back to what you had b4 and see if that solves it.  For a raid 5 id use the sata 0-0 , 0-1 , 0-2 , 0-3 ports.   Not sure how you do it but i actually have my lines marked as in r1 thru r4 so i always know what ports they were in so if i upgrade i can make sure they are as they were b4 i stuck my fingers in the case.

That comes from a time b4 when i moved stuff around and forgot what ports they were in and had to plug and unplugg and replug in between reboots till i found the right order. I left the raid 5 part out till i found the right raid 0 config then i just rebuilt the 5 part.  Maybe i got lucky but it worked for me.

Btw 2nd time i have ever beat either of the two at a post not going to mention what it took...lol
Thanks for watching over me absic and DK.
