GA-EP45T-UD3LR freezing
« on: October 13, 2010, 12:59:09 pm »
Hello. New GA-EP45T-UD3LR (from amazon marketplace) keeps freezing. Changed psu and memory. No difference. Upped MCH a little, put memory timings and voltage in manually. Still freezing. After freeze I turn psu off and on - it starts rebooting again and again and again... Turning off and leaving for few minutes helps. Heat is no problem - motherboard has never gone over 45 C. (3 case fans). Using: Q9650, HD5770 Vapor-x (only drivers, no ccc), samsung hd103uj, OCZ StealthXstream II 600W,  Kingston HyperX 4GB (KHX8500D2K2/4G), xp sp3. Is my mobo bad? :(

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It could be but there are many other things that can cause this type of problem too. One thing worth checking is that your memory is compatible with the motherboard. So check the QVL lists of both Gigabyte and Kingston and see if you can find it cross listed.

Secondly you dont say but I am assuming that you are using the stock cooler on the CPU. If that is so make sure that all four location lugs are fully home.

Thirdly can you post the exact model number of your PSU please?

Hello Dark Mantis
I had same problem with other psu - freezing and rebooting endlessly. This psu: OCZ600SXS2. Stock radiator till next week (well stuck to mobo). Gigabyte has memory on support list (only difference - khx8500d2k2/1gn, me - khx8500d2k2/4g). http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/motherboard_memory_ga-ep45-ud3lr.pdf  Kingston website does not show khx8500d2k2/1gn at all! http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=54899&mfr=Gigabyte&model=GA&search_type=&root=us&LinkBack=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kingston.com&Sys=54899-Gigabyte-GA-EP45-UD3LR+Motherboard&distributor=0&submit1=Search . Tried and had same problem with OCZ2N1066SR2GK (on Gigabyte list). OCZ2N1066SR2GK works fine with older Gigabyte mobo. I did memtest with OCZ2N1066SR2GK, no errors.  ???

How did your windows install go. If it took an extremely long time you may have a SATA data cable problem. Even if the install was normal check and or better yet replace the SATA cable your boot drive is connected to. Actually any SATA drive can cause hangs if the SATA cable is not correctly connected or defective so check or replace them all. I know this makes little sense but I have seen freezes or hangs caused by SATA cabling without data loss. Normally when SATA cabling is causing freezing you will see errors in the event logs that are related. So see if you can get into the logs for a look.

Also try disconnecting your optical drive(s) as they can cause freezing. Try disconnecting all hardware internal and external that is not needed to boot and test for the problem. Try a different keyboard and mouse.

Hope this helps

Hi Bill
I did change sata cables. Tried different HDD. Removed dvd drive. No effect.
Yesterday when mobo in constant restarting process, I started to remove (few seconds between restarts) hdd, memory.
Mobo came alive only when last memory stick was out! Started making error noises and lights on board light up. I think memory controller might be bad. Have tried with 8 sticks now. 4 brand new. Memtest no errors.Getting tired of this mobo >:(

You say you tried 8 sticks of memory, is that all the same brand/model?

If so maybe there is some compatibility issue, are you using the latest BIOS?

Latest is F10, is that what you are using?

Just checking.

Are you setting your own Ram voltage, and adding NB voltage?   If not you need to, and go ahead and set Performance Enhance on Standard

yes F10. Have set memory timings and voltage manually + upped MCH to 1.24 in Standard

I installed linux mint 64 bit. No problems at all. Has anybody had issues with 32 bit Xp? Gonna buy win 7 in few weeks.

I reinstalled Windows7-64 on my GA-EP45T-UD3LR( rev 1.0) due to a problem with Java. It had been fine for a long time; years I think. In the process I upgraded the Bios to the latest version; F10. After the reinstall it was extremely unstable; it would freeze within 10 minutes or so. >:( I spent days trying different Bios settings but nothing helped. When I reinstalled BIOS F5 it was stable :)

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Well I am glad that you managed to get it stable again but there really shouldn't have been any problem with one of the later BIOS versions. I would guess that maybe you have some hardware or software that is not so up to date or something that is playing up the BIOS.
