Gigabyte GV-N240D5-512I Fan Noise on System Startup
« on: October 14, 2010, 10:11:08 am »
Hi,

I have recently bought Gigabyte GV-N240D5-512I few days back and having problems with the Fan noise. When system starts up, fan runs at full speed up until windows 7 loads up the drivers and then it goes quiet. Has anybody got same issue? I was just wondering that is there any way to control fan speed on system starup. I have got Gigabyte EP45UD3R mobo and have gone through BIOS settings etc but couldn't find anything. I have tested Gainward GT240 which on my system which doesn't seem to  have this problem. Any suggestion/help pls.

Thanks.

Fan noise? I presume you are talking about the CPU fan? I wouldn't worry about it if it only lasts during the POST, the temperature monitoring controlling the fan speed probably doesn't kick in straight away. Or, like my graphics card due to using MSI afterburner it begins at 100% fan speed in windows 7 and slowly decreases to an idle state (~ 35%). I am guessing your CPU fan is doing something similar.

Thanks for your reply Badbonji. It's not the CPU fan, its actually Graphics Card's Cooling Fan which starts at 100% speed and after POST it goes to about 4%.I was reading somewhere is the forums that you can change the fan speed by modifying the BIOS. any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't think it would be possible to alter the GPUs fan speed from the system BIOS but there are some utilities that allow it from the GPUs firmware/drivers.

Yes you can flash the BIOS on the GPU, but I personally haver never done it myself. I am not sure where to even look in the BIOS to change the fan speed from POST, if there is an option at all. Unless it is causing a problem whilst the OS is running then I wouldn't really bother, as it can brick your card if done incorrectly.
